Since the ascension of Erdogan’s AKP party to power, friends of Turkey have been concerned about erosion of secularism and Turkey’s relations with the West. For the first time in the history of the Turkish Republic, officials of the governing party employ popular culture as a platform to instigate anti-Americanism; the sentiment is spreading beyond the extremist fringe.
