The sudden revival of Egypt’s plans to develop nuclear power have already prompted speculation by intelligence sources that Mubarak may have more than just future energy supplies in mind. In fact, Mubarak said Egypt was “not starting from zero”. He continued: “We have knowledge of this technology, enabling us to move forward with it.” No doubt having nuclear power could give Egypt much more influence in regional proliferation issues than it currently wields.

Report says Iran stopped nuclear production Hello! I'm Kristin Volk with a UPI Headline Update on this Tuesday, December 4, 2007. A new U.S. intelligence report states that Iran stopped working on nuclear weapons four years ago. It also says that it's unlikely to be able to produce enough enriched uranium for a bomb until 2010 to 2015. That declassified summary is less severe than a report two years ago that said Iran was determined to develop nuclear weapons despite international pressure. The White House responded saying the report doesn't change U.S. policy toward Iran and that the country still remains a serious threat.
