Deputy Head of the Russian General Staff, Colonel General Anatoly Nogovitsin, told journalists that Russia is attempting to contain the conflict and prevent it from spilling over into Georgia's other breakaway republic, Abkhazia, or into Russian territory.

The interestring thing is that CNN got on film sequence, where general Baranov gave order to kill the wounded soldier, Bazorkina's son. Baranov later was appointed "Hero of Russia" and is now the highest commander of all Russian troups in North Caucasus. This film shows that Baranov is a war criminal, a simple killer. "Our response will be calm, not hysterical, but there will definitely be a response," Putin said.
NATO sent a number of ships, including U.S. warships, into the Black Sea after Russia completed its operation "to force Georgia to peace" on August 12.
The operation came as a response to Georgia's attack on South Ossetia on August 8.
The U.S. has delivered millions of dollars of what it says is humanitarian aid to its ally Georgia. Russia has however questioned the nature of the deliveries.

Russia's military says it is bewildered by the build-up of NATO's naval force in the Black Sea -- and scoffed at claims the warships were delivering humanitarian aid. Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff, Colonel General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, told a media briefing that there are currently ten NATO warships with cruise missiles in the area, and eight more are expected to arrive there shortly.
"These ships are very seriously armed," Nogovitsyn said. "As far as cruise missiles are concerned, they are strategic arms and have a range of 2,500 km. The Black Sea is just a pool for them."
The Colonel General added it's very hard to believe these ships have arrived just to bring humanitarian aid.
