Indonesia to push ahead with nuclear plans

Posted by Matt in February 5th, 2007

JAKARTA: Indonesia will pursue its plans to develop nuclear power as part of efforts to find alternative energy sources to address its growing needs, Environment Minister Rachmat Witoelar has said.

Jakarta shelved atomic energy plans in 1997 in the face of mounting public opposition and the discovery and exploitation of the large Natuna gas field. But the plans were floated again in 2005 amid increasing power shortages.

“We will continue to discuss how to utilise nuclear energy, but this does not mean that we will develop it right now,” the state Antara news agency quoted Witoelar as saying on Saturday.

Guam US Mil. Bases gets $15B (P1) Detail Dissection
(Part 1 of 3) This video is in Chinese, but I added the English subtitle for the benefit of non-Chinese speakers. (a) Two Chinese analysts explained military and geopolitical significance of this US military posturing in West Pacific Region. Imho, China and other Asian countries will react, they have no choice. What will be this arm posturing escalation lead to, who knows? (b)(below are my own commentary) This is your tax dollars, and the Guam native people has no saying in this US military presence or build up on their lands. But their livelihood and their island future existence is now squarely in the cross-hair of future...
