America’s Quiet Victories in Asia

Posted by Matt in February 14th, 2007

The United States has a winning hand in Asia and needs to play it. This means more engagement at senior levels–with China, but particularly with like-minded leaders in India, Japan and Indonesia. It means completing our free-trade negotiations with Korea so that the United States sets the standard for trade liberalization in the region. Above all it means not abandoning our commitment to the promotion of democracy in Asia, where we are succeeding despite setbacks in Iraq and the Middle East.

How Bush Bungled Asia
Speaker: Professor T. J. Pempel, Political Science, University of California, Berkeley Supporters of the Bush Administration argue that Americas relations with Asia, unlike its worsened ties with Europe, the Middle East and much of Latin America, are quite positive and have even improved since Bush took office. Some even argue that Iraq policies have contributed to that perceived improvement. This talk will assess those claims and argue to the contrary that Asian popular attitudes toward the US have deteriorated since 9/11. More importantly, the Bush administration has failed to connect effectively to Asia in three vital areas: 1) an over militarization of foreign policy when Asia is moving in the opposite direction; 2) misplaced economic policies at home that have weakened Americas...

Japanese essay causes an Asian storm
Japanese General Toshio Tamogami of the Japanese Air Force (ASDF Air Self-Defense Force - JSDF) wrote an essay titled, Was Japan an Aggressor Nation. In this essay General Tamogami offers the opinion that the actions in Asia during and before World War Two were not due to Japanese aggression and that the attack upon Pearl Harbor, Japan was tricked into it by United States President Franklyn Roosevelt. This video does not address the Asian aspect of Japanese activities as it does address the Pearl Harbor part of the essay. This essay caused stern criticism from China and South Korea. It also caused General Tamogami to lose his position. Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso dismissed the General from his position

Asia Engineer - Eternal Pose
One Piece Ending 15 English Lyricz : The pieces of a half-grasped dream are unchanging things Us who are chasing after our aspirations float in the sky Even during times when we were exhausted, it's something unchanging Will we always be able to hold the compass to search for them, I wonder? A tiny memory, I quietly opened my notebook A notebook that bound up old past actions Even now it's a precious treasure that's in the very back of my drawer As the plots of the dreams that come to me when I fall asleep Change little by little, I realize that I'm growing up How to make my dream come true I'm blue because there's no way to know that Hard times unfold, and the tears come, but I still have my dreaming heart Pieces of a dream scattered like stardust Their light has already disappeared...
