Feb 15, 2007 — CANBERRA (Reuters) - The United States is to build a new military satellite communications base in Australia, the government said on Thursday, after three years of secret negotiations between the two allies.
The new base will relay signals and intelligence to U.S. forces in the Middle East and Asia from Geraldton, 400 km (248 miles) north of the West Australian state capital Perth.

No Australian soldiers were wounded in any of these incidents, but the Taliban was known to have suffered casualties. The soldiers protect the RTF worksite by patrolling throughout the area and maintaining a constant presence. Australia has deployed a Reconstruction Task Force (RTF), consisting of a combined arms team, to the Oruzgan Province in southern Afghanistan as part of Operation Slipper. Ku Klux Klan in the Australian Army YouTube shows Aussie Ku Klux Klan 'soldiers' THE army is investigating an online video that shows binge drinking and a person parading in a Ku Klux Klan outfit on what appears to be Australian Defence Force property. The footage, titled "My experience in the Australian Army", shows young men, some in uniform, in a contest to drink alcohol through a long plastic hose they call the "super tube of death". Several drinkers, whose faces are clearly seen, stagger off and vomit over the railing of a demountable-style building called "Block 651". Australian Army combat in Afghanistan Australian Army Reconstruction Task Force soldiers engage Taliban who attacked them while the RTF was building a patrol base for the Afghan National Army, approximately 15km from Tarin Kowt. This was the first time the Australian Army had fired its mortars operationally since the Vietnam War. The Taliban used small arms fire and RPGs from different positions to attack the site. The Australian troops responded swiftly with ASLAV vehicles, mortars and follow-up patrolling.
