Thousands of North Koreans flee their country in order to escape persecution
and famine. Many make the treacherous journey over the Chinese border. If
they are caught by the Chinese authorities they are forcibly repatriated back to North Korea where imprisonment, torture and execution await them.
On November 30th and December 1st the North Korean Freedom Coalition
organized a worldwide protest that was simultaneously staged at the Chinese embassy in Washington, D.C. and the five Chinese consulates in the U.S.: New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Famine and starvation seems to be common in North Korea under communist oppression controlled by a despot of comic proportion. However this comic is a tragedy. A group was formed at Yale University in the United States called, LiNK (Life in North Korea). They risk all trying to make it across the North Korean border to China, only to find no guarantee of a better life. At constant risk of being deported, these refugees live a half life in the shadows.
