Iran releases captured sailors
Hello. I'm Kristin Volk with a UPI headline update on this Wednesday, April 4, 2007.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says he has pardoned the 15 British sailors and marines detained last month and will set them free. That's according to CNN. Admadinejad made the announcement at a news conference where he honored the border guards who captured them. The President honored three of those guards with medals for bravery. In his speech, he said Iran will never allow trespassing of its waters.
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with Syria's President today against the wishes of the Bush administration. There are no details about what Pelosi and President Bashar al-Assad talked about. Syria is Iran's closest Arab ally, and Iran's state television has said Syrian President Bashar Assad is expected to discuss Tehran's nuclear ambitions in his meeting with Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Former Syrian Minister: Iran is Entitled to Get Nukes
Someone better tell former Syrian Defense Minister Mustafa Tlas that Bashar al-Assad, his fearless leader, wants to take a more 'nuanced' approach to Iran, at least until he can get Ehud K. Olmert to give him the Golan Heights.
