In a suspenseful drama of a match, Anatoly Buyalsky's team beat the defending champion of Europe the Czech team 52:46. This is the first time Belarusians are playing in a European championship ever. The team will face the winner of a Belgium-Spain encounter in the semifinal. The game will be shown by Channel Lad on October 6th.

Belarus ready to settle its debt
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko says Minsk will settle its half-billion dollar debt with the Russian gas giant Gazprom in the next few days. Meanwhile, the European Commission has called on both Russia and Belarus to ensure that supplies to Europe are not affected.

Artur Finkevich (23) was detained for spraying political graffiti in Belarus. Since this 31st of January 2006, until today (16th of January 2008) Artur is in prison! Therefore concerned citizens of the EU call the authorities of the European Union for effective measures against the permanent violations of human rights in Belarus - which were condemned by all states of the European Union in UN-resolutions in 2006 and 2007. For two years, the EU-policy of "smiling appeasement" was ineffective, and the case of Artur Finkevich proves this. Human rights in Belarus need more activities than to sign resolutions!
