Posted by Matt in July 10th, 2007

THE US is replacing one of its aircraft carriers in the Gulf, where the Fifth Fleet is keeping an eye on Iran, but the Pentagon said no decision had been made to increase forces in the region.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said the USS Enterprise was expected to arrive within weeks in the Gulf, where the US has been flexing its muscles in a standoff with Iran over Tehran’s nuclear program that had stocked regional tensions.

Fastest Growing City in the World! Middle East 2.0 - Dubai
As seen on 60 Minutes Dubai Inc. reported by Steve Kroft. The Biggest Story in the World --- Dubai - home of the world's largest construction site and one of the most amazing stories in our world today. While millions flock to Dubai annually, from an American perspective it's "the Middle East we don't know". Still surrounded in misunderstanding by so many in the US, the massively positive story of Dubai and Middle East 2.0 is the real story of change in the Gulf. It is a story of peaceful, constructive excellence and the pursuit of dreams. A story very much in line with true American values. Dubai is a city in the emirate of Dubai which is part of the United Arab Emirates or UAE in the Persian Gulf. The UAE is part of the GCC, Gulf Cooperative Council, an economic group of...

Rising Gulf (Shuchen Tan, VPRO Backlight)
While the focus of most of the worlds media is on conflict areas in the Middle East, a silent revolution is taking place in the Gulf States. A rapid modernization process is taking place in this part of the Arab world, one that we have never seen before. Imagine an island called 'Happiness'. This is not a fantasy, it truly exists and will soon arise on the coast of Abu Dhabi, one of the largest Emirates in the Persian Gulf. A silent revolution is taking place in the Gulf where petro dollars are floating and Bedouin tents have long been replaced by a world of luxury and indulgence. While most of the worlds media focus on the Middle East as a region of conflict, a rapid modernization process is taking place in this part of the world, one that we have never seen before. Due to high oil...

Middle East Update - Iran Test Fires Missiles (rockets) BibleOrTraditions
(RTTNews, July 8, 2008) - Iran has threatened to attack Israel and the U.S. navy in the Gulf as its first response to any attack on its nuclear sites, media reports quoting a senior aide to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Tuesday. "The first U.S. shot on Iran would set the United States' vital interests in the world on fire," said Ali Shirazi, who is Khamenei's representative to the naval forces of the elite Revolutionary Guards. He said that Tel Aviv and the U.S. fleet in the Persian Gulf would be the targets that would be set on fire in Iran's crushing response. (World Tribune, June 22, 2007) Iran has expanded its naval presence in the Straits of Hormuz, the passage for an estimated 40 percent of global crude oil shipments. The U.S. Navy has determined that Iran has...

The Tallest Building in the World - Burj Dubai! Middle East
I went to the Burj Dubai and filmed the construction and then again six months later. 66 to 124 floors in six months! The Burj Dubai tower is designed to be the centerpiece of a large-scale, mixed-use development that will include 30,000 homes, nine hotels, 6 acres of parkland, 19+ residential towers, the Dubai Mall, and a large man-made lake. The complete 500 acre development will cost about $20 billion dollars (US). Once completed, the tower will cover a total of over 22 million square feet of development. The official height of the Burj Dubai is kept secret because of international competition, but current estimates have it rising to a height in excess of 2,600 feet. Some estimate that it will be 189 floors or so - it is to be the tallest building in the world. Recently, the...

Thats FAST 6 Months of Construction - Dubai BEFORE and AFTER UAE, Middle East
Dubai, UAE is the world's fastest growing city. This video compares footage taken of Dubai in Fall 2006 with footage taken in Spring 2007. Dubai is part of the UAE, United Arab Emirates, a country in the Gulf region of the Middle East. The capital of the UAE is Abu Dhabi. In a matter of months, new buildings appear in the perpetually changing Dubai City skyline. Various news articles state that tens of thousands of construction cranes are currently in Dubai, reportedly up to a third of all of the cranes in the world. It is quite amazing to see the speed at which they are working. Dubai is an emirate of the United Arab Emirates. Wealth, education levels and growth equal or surpass the US. Economic progress in this city of the future is unprecedented. It is the Middle East that is...

Higher Education in the Middle East and the Next Generation of Arab Leaders
Google Tech Talks May, 22 2008 ABSTRACT Higher education is changing rapidly in the Middle East with the establishment of new U.S. campuses in the Gulf Emirates and the new King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia. And at a time when Arab opinion of U.S. policies has never been lower, the demand for U.S.-style, English-language higher education in the Middle East has never been greater. These changes are crucial to the future economic, societal and political development in the region. Speaker: David D. Arnold, President, The American University David Arnold became the tenth president of the American University in Cairo in September 2003. Initiatives launched during his presidency include establishing a graduate school of business and new master's degree...

jordan syria palestine the beautiful middle east
a video made to show some of the beautiful faces, gardens and archaeology of the middle east. the people of jordan, syria, and palestine are smart, honest, loving, welcoming, multi-lingual people who share the same hopes for peace and a normal life that westerners do. westerners must not buy into the 'axis of evil' non sense proposed by our current government which seems to be promoting endless war. i encourage americans to visit their brothers and sisters in the middle east to experience and get to know these wonderful welcoming people. i recently returned from three weeks in the middle east where i experience no feelings of hostility and was warmly welcomed by our middle eastern friends. jordan is a good base for exploring the middle east. the gulf of aquaba boasts one of the most...

Blood and Oil - Middle East in WWI Pt 1: Surprise Attack
Part 1 - Surprise Attack. Enver Pasha, minister of war for the Ottoman Empire, agrees to a secret alliance with Germany in August 1914. Istanbul mobilizes its army but remains neutral for nearly three months. Eager for a fight against Russia, Enver orders the Turkish Black Sea Fleet to bombard Russian seaports on October 29th. The Triple Entente -- France, Russia and Great Britain -- reacts swiftly and declares war against the Turks within a week. Except for the Dardanelles/Gallipoli campaigns, the extensive combat operations in the Middle East during World War I have been largely overlooked in documentary programs. Given the historical significance of the Ottoman Empire's demise in 1918, and the ongoing importance of Middle Eastern oil reserves to Western economies, a close study of...
