North Korea’s reactor produced plutonium, not power

SEOUL: North Korea’s Yongbyon reactor was ostensibly built to generate electricity but is reportedly not connected to any power lines.

Russia on Sunday welcomed as “positive” North Korea’s confirmation that it had shut down its controversial nuclear reactor at Yongbyon.
“The halting of the nuclear reactor in Yongbyon is a positive factor in the development of the situation around the North Korean problem,” foreign ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said in comments posted on the ministry’s website.

UN hails Iran nuclear agreement
