The Navy goes to great lengths to conceal the design of its submarine propellers, but the aerial photo now on the Internet clearly shows the blades.
While he confirmed that the photo does show an Ohio-class hull, Lt. Cmdr. Chris Loundermon, submarine force public affairs officer, said it’s unclear what submarine is pictured.
Yes, that is an Ohio-class submarine, either an SSBN or SSGN, in dry dock in the Pacific Northwest at the intermediate maintenance facility on the Naval Submarine Base Kitsap-Bangor, he said.

My Comment:
I suspect that this is an elaborate ruse to throw off Chinese intelligence. Why? Because this is such a basic mistake of huge proportions that one must conclude that it isn’t a mistake. The U.S. military wanted the Chinese to see this picture.
Skillfully crafting a new propeller blade could throw off the Chinese for years. However, the Chinese wouldn’t know for sure, so they must expend resources to investigate this type of propeller design.

United States Submarines A tribute to the modern submarines of the United States. Hope you guys like it. These subs are truly the best of the best, especially the Seawolf and Ohio classes. These are not my pictures or video clips. I claim no right to them, and I just wanted to put them in a movie, so please no yelling at me. United States Submariners, keep up the good work within the silent service. 1945 US Submarine: No Mercy for Shipwrecked Japanese www.webalice.it 1945. A US Navy submarine in action in the Pacific. The orders, due to the many cases of suicidal attacks with the use of explosives or hand grenades, were “to avoid and prevent with any means” the approaching to the US ships of shipwrecked Japanese sailors. Another (untold) reason for the killing was to avoid that the shipwrecked Japanese may reveal the submarine presence and position, in case they would be rescued by enemy ships. To explain the “nonchalance” of the US sailors in being filmed while committing what nowadays could be considered a war crime, all one need to do is watching some of the US WW2 propaganda films and cartoons, portraiting Japanese like sub-human monsters deserving only to be killed (The key phrase of a major War Bonds Campaign theatrical ad was:… Tags: WW2, World-War-2, Pacific, Submarines, Japanese |

US Submarine Fleet Action WW2 Pt 4-5 Effects on the Japanese Army: The breakdown of the Japanese merchant marine placed grievous logistical constraints on the ability of the Japanese Empire to supply her army deployed throughout the Central and Southern Pacific. Japanese logistical problems first became apparent in 1942 during the Guadalcanal campaign, when an overstrained logistical system and relentless US air attacks resulted in frontline Japanese units receiving only 10% of the supplies comparable American units received. US submarines attacks directly affected the ability of the Japanese to move troops and supplies into important combat zones. For example, concentrated submarine attacks on shipping delivering the experienced 32nd and 35th Infantry divisions to the New Guinea theater resulted in the Japanese convoy… Tags: US, submarine, fleet, gato, balao, action, wwii, world, war, II, united, states, america, american, pearl, harbor, japan, japanese, USN, IJN, battle, battleship, aircraft, carrier, uss, enterprise, yamato, navy, coral, sea, midway, pacific, battlecrusier, merchant, marine, armed, forces, imperial, army, military, power, warships, toyko, battlefield, oil, naval, bomb, bombing, convoy, empire, guadalcanal, nimitz, mcarthur, invasion, ships, combat, allies, economy, u-boat, attacks, halsey, task, force |

US Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBM) Polaris, Poseidon and Trident I & II SLBMs. The Polaris missile was a submarine-launched, two-stage solid-fuel nuclear-armed ballistic missile (SLBM) built during the Cold War by Lockheed for the United States Navy. It was designed to be used as part of the US Navy’s contribution to the United States’ arsenal of nuclear weapons, replacing the Regulus cruise missile. Known as a Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM), it first flew from Cape Canaveral on January 7, 1960. Following the Polaris Sales Agreement in 1963 Polaris missiles were also carried on UK submarines between 1968 and the mid 1990s. Polaris was replaced in the US Navy by Poseidon, beginning in 1972. In the 1980s both were replaced by Trident I. US Submarine Fleet Action WW2 Pt 2-5 Moreover, the reduction in imports of raw materials mirrored problems importing food. During 1944, average caloric intake fell 12% below the minimum daily requirement for the non-farming population. The enormous drop in importation of raw materials resulted in a significant drop in Japanese industrial production. In fact, the Japanese mobilization committee stated in a late 1944 report: “Shipping lost or damaged since the beginning of the war amounts to two and one half times newly constructed shipping and formed the chief cause of the constant impoverishment of national strength.” Submarine attacks on the oil flow to Japan were a second critical factor in destroying Japanese military potential. Japanese oil imports fell from 1.75 million barrels per month in August 1943 to 360000 barrels… Tags: US, submarine, fleet, gato, balao, action, wwii, world, war, II, united, states, america, american, pearl, harbor, japan, japanese, USN, IJN, battle, battleship, aircraft, carrier, uss, enterprise, yamato, navy, coral, sea, midway, pacific, battlecrusier, merchant, marine, armed, forces, imperial, army, military, power, warships, toyko, battlefield, oil, naval, bomb, bombing, convoy, empire, guadalcanal, nimitz, mcarthur, invasion, ships, combat, allies, economy, u-boat, attacks, halsey, task, force |

US Submarine Fleet Action WW2 Pt 1-5 The year 2000 marks the centennial of the US Submarine Force. Among the most extraordinary accomplishments of American submariners is the impressive victory of US World War II Fleet Boats over the Japanese Navy and Merchant Marine. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor resulted in a significant loss of strength for the US Navy and placed that Navy in a defensive posture. The only weapon system immediately available to take the war to the enemy was the US Submarine Force. Indeed, FDR had decided prior to the start of the war that “unrestricted submarine warfare” would be undertaken in the event of hostilities with Japan. Throughout the war, the growing US submarine force was employed in attacks on Japanese merchant shipping as well as on Japanese fleet units when the opportunity presented… Tags: US, submarine, fleet, gato, balao, action, wwii, world, war, II, united, states, america, american, pearl, harbor, japan, japanese, USN, IJN, battle, battleship, aircraft, carrier, uss, enterprise, yamato, navy, coral, sea, midway, pacific, battlecrusier, merchant, marine, armed, forces, imperial, army, military, power, warships, toyko, battlefield, oil, naval, bomb, bombing, convoy, empire, guadalcanal, nimitz, mcarthur, invasion, ships, combat, allies, economy, u-boat, attacks, halsey, task, force |

Top Fighting Ships of WWII – US Submarines Coming in at 15 The decisive role played by the Silent Service during WW II is often overlooked, or the significance of their contribution is not fully understood. The Submarine Service represented only 1.6% of all Navy personnel during the war but they accounted for over 55% of all Japanese ships sunk, including one-third of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Including 8 aircraft carriers. Submariners paid a high price for this accomplishment, however, with the highest percentage causality rate of any branch of the service, almost 23%.Victory at sea did not come cheaply. The Submarine Force lost 52 boats and 3506 men. American submarines contributed to the virtual strangling of the Japanese economy by sinking almost five million tons of shipping—over 60 percent of the Japanese merchant marine. US Submarine Fleet Action WW2 Pt 5-5 Misplaced Resources and Strategic Immobility: Several important second order and indirect effects must be noted in the US submarine campaign. First, the Japanese used a portion of their submarine force to supply bypassed units. Indeed, the Japanese army and navy each built significant numbers of submarines designed for the express purpose of carrying cargo. Not only were scarce resources wasted in this way, but Japanese submarines that could have been used to attack the extended American logistics train were not properly employed. Another important combined direct and indirect effect of the US campaign against the Emperor’s lines of communication was strategic immobility. The inadequacy of total lift and reliance on barges in theater meant large number of Japanese troops could not be… Tags: US, submarine, fleet, gato, balao, action, wwii, world, war, II, united, states, america, american, pearl, harbor, japan, japanese, USN, IJN, battle, battleship, aircraft, carrier, uss, enterprise, yamato, navy, coral, sea, midway, pacific, battlecrusier, merchant, marine, armed, forces, imperial, army, military, power, warships, toyko, battlefield, oil, naval, bomb, bombing, convoy, empire, guadalcanal, nimitz, mcarthur, invasion, ships, combat, allies, economy, u-boat, attacks, halsey, task, force |

USS Pampanito Rescuing Australian POWs NOTE: Video of this particular incident was shot on both the USS Pampanito, and the USS Sealion II, the video has kind of gotten mixed up thru the years. One thing is for sure, most of this was shot by Lt jg (ss) Joe “shorty” Bates. Many thanks to Joes son Bob Bates for providing me with this incredible video. The images shown here are some of the most dramatic I have ever seen. As a former Bubblehead myself, I am proud of all these men, and they are all heros in my book. Being at a dead stop in hostile enemy waters is something a submarine does not want to do. It is unfortunate that we actually sank these poor boys just 4 days previous, but the Japanese did not have the ships marked correctly, indicating that Allied POW’s were aboard. For a more complete understanding of this incident,… Tags: us, submarine, ww2, wwii, pacific, uss, pampanito, ss383, ss-383, japanese, prison, hell, ship, rescuing, Australian, POW, survivors |

US Submarine Fleet Action WW2 Pt 3-5 The submarine offensive gravely weakened a second pillar of Japanese power: the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). USS Sealion II Rescuing Australian POW’s This video is from the US Submarine “USS SeaLion II” (SS-315) taken Sept 15, 1944, while rescuing British and Australian Soldiers, who are survivors of two Japanese Transport Ships the Rakuyo Maru, and the Kachidoki Maru, which were NOT MARKED as they should have been with any Red Cross Flag, and had been sunk 3 days earlier by American Submarines while the Japanese were hauling the POW’s from Malaysia to the Japanese Mainland. The Americans were totally unaware of the precious cargo they had just sunk. These men had all been Japanese Prisoners of war for 3 years on the Maylay Peninsula, used in forced labor to construct the Burma to Thailand Railway. 53 Men were plucked from the water that day by the SeaLion II, and taken to Saipan, where they were safely transferred to the US Army… Tags: Sub, us, submarine, ww2, wwii, pacific, uss, sealion, ss315, ss-325, rescue, australian, POW, pows, Jap, Hell, Ship |

Raw Video: US Coast Guard intercepts drug running submarine In the last 6 months the US Coast Guard along with the US Navy have found 42 submersibles headed north towards the United States and off the coast of Central America. That is double the number found in the previous 5 years combined. These subs can carry as much as 10 tons of drugs or even weapons and some of the latest models can move 15 knots. This is obviously troubling and makes our war on the cartels that much more difficult. We are currently at Coast Guard Island in Alameda California, where the US Coast Guard Cutter Sherman is located. The ship has recently returned from operations off of Central America, where finding these subs is proving difficult. They are primitive but effective and built similar to the subs used in the civil war.
