Inside Gaza - Israel/Palestine
Oct 2007
With Fatah and Hamas so divided, will the recent peace talks achieve anything? There are warnings Hamas will attempt to disrupt the summit by stepping up rocket attacks.
From a wooded valley in Gaza, Al Aqsa fighters light a rocket fuse. Everyone runs for their lives as the rocket shoots off into Israel. Later, safe in his office, Al Aqsa's commander shows us how he selects targets in Israel. "We obtain details from Google Earth and check them against our maps". For Gaza's residents, life seems to get harder by the day. Supplies are dwindling thanks to an economic blockade. Fatah claims Hamas is turning Gaza into a brutal police state. It has ordered all medical staff to go on strike. But for the sick, denying them medical care is a step too far. As one women laments; "What have...

Free Gaza demo
The Israeli army has closed all border crossings of the Gaza Strip since June 2006. This total siege has created a humanitarian crisis, destroyed the economy and violates the basic human rights of the Palestinian civilian population, particularly the rights to decent living conditions, health and education.
On 19 September 2007, the Israeli government declared the Gaza Strip "a hostile entity" and stepped up its collective punishment. A crime is being perpetrated against civilians in Gaza which violates international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The siege is creating a living hell in Gaza:
"Palestinians are suffering from hunger and malnutrition. Food imports cover only 41% of demand. 80% of Gazans receive food aid and 80% live below the poverty line.
People who are...

Gaza Tunnels - Israel/Palestine
Mar 2008
Most of Hamas' weapons are smuggled in through tunnels between Gaza and Egypt. These tunnels are usually dug by children, who know they could be killed at any moment.
Every night, 14 year old Said scrambles down a narrow shaft leading to a tunnel. He'll spend the next eight hours digging without a break. It's claustrophobic, difficult work. The heat in the tunnel is unbearable and the more they advance, the harder it becomes to breathe. At any moment, the tunnel could come crashing down, burying them alive. That's not the only danger. "Sometime the Egyptians shoot gas into the tunnel that might kill us", states Ramdan. "There are risks of electric shocks and the Israelis might bomb the entrance". Since Hamas seized control of Gaza, the borders have been closed. The tunnels are...

Israeli Attack on Palestinian Family on Gaza Beach
This video is my recording of an Aljazeera news segment aired on Friday June 10th at 10pm EST.
More here: http://myoccupation.blogspot.com/2006/06/yaaaabaaaaaanother-israeli-atrocity.html
Israeli artillery shells have struck a group of Palestinian civilians at a beach in Bait Lahiya in northern Gaza, killing seven people, including three children, and wounding 36 others, Aljazeera reports.
The artillery shells were fired on Friday by Israeli gunboats stationed just off the Mediterranean coast.
The dead and the wounded Palestinians were having a picnic on the beach as it was the weekly holiday, Aljazeera's correspondent Wael al-Dahduh said.
The barrage scattered body parts along the seaside. A tent was destroyed, and bloody sheets were scattered about. A crowd quickly flocked to the...

Israel denies Gaza attack responsibility - 29 April 08
The father of four children killed in Gaza is rejecting denials from Israel that it was responsible.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has expressed deep sorrow, but says the Hamas tactic of launching rocket barrages from densely populated areas is to blame.
Ahmed Abu Meg-teg lost four children and his wife as his house in the Gaza Strip was torn apart by a huge explosion.
He described to Al Jazeera, what happened.
However, Israel has a different version of events. David Chater has been trying to piece together what really happened in Beit Hanoun.

Israel continues to bombard Gaza - 01 Mar 08
A fourth day of aerial bombardment by Israeli aircraft is now being backed up now by ground forces making their deepest incursion into Gaza since 2005.
The chief negotiator for the Palestinians says any hope for the peace talks now lies buried in the rubble of Gaza.
More than 80 people - women and children among them - have been killed over the past four days, and international condemnation remains muted.
Nour Odeh has been following the day's developments.

Gaza Under Siege - Israel/Palestine
February 2001
One of the most densely populated places on earth, the Gaza Strip is home to over a million Palestinians - and is a virtual prison. Just 43 kilometres long and 10 kilometres wide, most of its residents are refugees who've lived in camps since 1948. Since the Palestinian uprising - the second Intifada - began in September 2000, none of Gaza's 40,000 day labourers have been able to cross the border to Israel. The checkpoint is also closed to all goods and medical supplies coming in from Israel and the West Bank. Local Gazans bear the brunt of Israel's determination to quash the uprising. Some 135 Palestinian children under the age of 15 have been killed by Israel's soldiers - for throwing stones at checkpoints near Israeli settlements. In this episode, Life visits Reyidh and...

Palestinians killed in Israeli raids into Gaza - 16 April 08
More than 20 Palestinians have died in the Gaza Strip as Israel unleashed military strikes and troops moved into the centre of the territory.
A journalist was also killed in the attacks.
It makes 16 April one of the deadliest days in Gaza for weeks.
But army leaders say the operations were routine and aimed against fighters suspected of launching rockets into southern Israel.
Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland reports from Jerusalem.

Israel has confirmed it has agreed to a six-month truce with Palestinian armed groups including Hamas, the country's public radio service has reported.
Ehud Olmert, Israel's prime minister and Ehud Barak, defence minister, approved the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire a day after Egyptian and Palestinian officials announced a deal.
The Palestinian territory's been the scene of deadly clashes with the Israeli army since a Hamas takeover last year.
Egypt, which has worked for months to broker the deal, is urging both sides to do everything they can to make the peace last.
Al Jazeera's Ayman Mohyeldin reports from Gaza on the Egyptian-brokered peace deal.

Israeli Navy shoots at Gaza fishermen and international volunteers
GAZA: 1st September 2008, the first day of Ramadan, several volunteers with the Free Gaza Movement and the International Solidarity Movement accompanied a small fleet of seven fishing vessels from Gaza City port. The fishermen exercised their right to fish in Gazan territorial waters, providing them with a livelihood and food for the besieged people of Gaza. The fishing fleet reached approximately nine miles offshore and began trawling along the Gazan coast, well within international limits. Usually the Israeli Navy prevents Gazan fishing vessels from accessing beyond six miles and in many cases only three miles by attacking the boats, sometimes lethally, or by arresting the fishermen. However, this day's fishing resulted in a highly successful catch due to the ability to access richer...

Israeli raids on Gaza - 05 Jul 07
A new Israeli push into Gaza has left at least seven Palestinians dead and seen a journalist shot as he tried to cover the story. Soldiers went into the east of Gaza City, backed up by tanks. Israeli forces crossed the border into Gaza early on Thursday and as night falls over the strip, the operation is continuing. This report by our Gaza correspondent Nour Odeh contains pictures which some viewers may find disturbing.
