Aussie Firm Develops Missile Catamarans for China
CHAN:
It's recently been revealed, the Chinese Navy is using an Australian design to expand its warship fleet to include catamarans armed with missiles. But some Australian experts warn this may be bad for Australia's national interest. Sheridan Harvey has more:

This pure-fission U-235 implosion fission device named "596" was China's first nuclear test. The device weighed 1550 kg. No plutonium was available at this time.
596 is the codename of the People's Republic of China's first nuclear weapons test, detonated on October 16, 1964 at the Lop Nur test site. It was a uranium-235 implosion fission device and had a yield of 22 kilotons. With the test, China became the fifth nuclear power.

The order for the Chinese nuclear weapons program, designated by the codename of "02", was given by Chairman Mao Tse Tsung himself, who believed that without a nuclear weapon China would not be taken seriously as a world power. The events of the...

China's Boomers
This summer's public revelation that China has constructed two or more new ballistic missile submarines raises a number of strategic, operational and bureaucratic questions about the future of nuclear arsenals held by China and the United States. How China deploys and operates these systems, as well as how the United States responds, will significantly impact the stability of deterrence in the Pacific.
The New America Foundation invites you to join five national security scholars as they participate in a round-table discussion on the subject of whether China's deterrent will go to sea and what that means for U.S. national security. As these questions play out over the next decade, these five experts are well poised to understand and inform the debate in the public sphere and policy arena.
