Obama and China: Part 8 of Election '08 and the Challenge of China
The U.S.-China relationship is complicated and is vital for both countries and the world. Where do Senators McCain and Obama stand on U.S.-China trade, security, environmental, and human rights issues? How important has policy toward China been in past elections and in 2008? These are the questions explored in a USC U.S.-China Institute documentary.
Senator Obama has been critical of existing Chinese trade and currency practices. This segment includes the candidate speaking on China in Iowa and Pennsylvania and elsewhere. It features interviews with Obama's principal advisors on China policy.

Beijing criticises US on human rights record - 21 Oct 08
One of the big foreign policy challenges facing the next US president is how to handle China.
Trade has grown exponentially between the two nations but bilateral ties remain strained.
The US accuses Beijing of locking up political dissidents and brutally suppressing a separatist movement by Uighur Muslims.
But China has published its own reports on human rights abuses in the US, saying Washington has been incapable of lifting many African-Americans out of poverty.
In our second of a series of reports examing this fractious relationship, Al Jazeera's Tony Cheng has more.

Underground Trade Unions - China
June 1998
Market reform and mass lay-offs across China are causing social havoc. We go underground to hear from China's growing dissident movement - complaining not about democracy but unemployment. Dissident Xu Wen Li is one of a growing number of activists who believes the current labour unrest is a vehicle for bigger change. Jailed for 12 years for promoting democracy, he has now...
