Russian economy: safe haven or oil bubble?
As the US economy has already fallen into a recession, according to the majority of economists, and the European one doesn't feel well, the so-called BRIC countries -- Brazil, Russia, India and China -- are attracting more and more foreign investors. Is Russia a truly safe haven in the troubled waters of the world economy? How will the current crisis affect Russian economic development? To answer these questions, our guest today is Aleksey Novikov.

Oil Threatens Nenets - Russia
May 1996
On the Arctic plains, the Nenet tribespeople are gathering for a unique festival. Skidding across the frozen Tundra in sleds pulled by furry reindeer, they celebrate an antique culture which Communism failed to destroy. After herding reindeer through the white daylight hours, they shelter from the Arctic freeze in leather Tee Pees, eating raw fish and drinking frozen streamwater. But as the elders crouch by their smoky fires, they talk anxiously about a multi-billion dollar pipeline project. American oil giant Amoco and the Russian Gazprom pose the biggest threat to their nomadic lifestyle since Stalin. Timofei, a Nenet leader, is despondent: 'they will take all the gas and leave all the rubbish'. Promises by the oil companies to preserve the landscape are viewed with scepticism....

Low Oil Prices Cause Russian Stock Crash
Now you know why Russia arms Muslim terrorist nations and organizations.
The Russians are making huge profits off of the high oil prices and weapons sales in the Middle East to radical Muslims.
The media would never have the guts to report the truth, because they too have an anti-American & socialist agenda.
Russia and OPEC were manipulating the oil prices, but their plan collapsed when Bush announced that the USA was going to DRILL....

Sakhalin: Extraction or Extinction - Russia
Nov 2006
Russia claims its decision to stop Shell building the world's biggest oil and gas development was motivated by environmental concerns. So why will it let work resume if Shell pays more money?
The impoverished islands of Sakhalin are noteworthy for two reasons. Their coastal waters are the only feeding ground for the critically endangered Western Grey Whale. And it's here that the world's largest integrated oil and gas facility is being built. This development is increasingly unpopular in Russia. As Julian Lee from the Centre for Global Energy Studies explains; "It's the only major project in Russia that has no Russian company involvement." Many believe the Kremlin is using environmental concerns to wrest back control of the Sakhalin development.

Russia and Venezuela are working towards the formation of a strategic alliance in the energy sector, said Chavez after talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Moreover, Dmitry Medvedev and Hugo Chavez have promised to take personal control over the implementation of key joint oil and gas projects.
