India to test new long-range ballistic missile in 2009

India is to test a new version of its longest-range ballistic missile capable of hitting targets more than 5,000 km away, its top military scientist said on Tuesday.

Last year, India successfully tested the Agni III, which is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead more than 3,000 km, scientists said.

CNN/IBN report on India's missile development
A report on CNN about indian missile technology. India declared its Agni 1 and 2(it's primary nuclear deterent) reliable on the basis of just 3 tests. In contrast its neighbour, Pakistan, carried out over 300 tests on it's missiles. India has been buying Israeli missiles because the concerns of its generals. Edit: Ive removed comments. India to test Interceptor missile
Preparations for the trial of India's Interceptor missile development programme have reached its final stage. India will conduct its second test of Interceptor missile today.Two missiles will be involved in the exercise. One will be used as the target, the other as the interceptor missile. The target missile is a modified version of India's Prithvi ballistic missile.
