Solar Thermal Energy: Harnessing the Power of the Sun
The video shows the use of solar thermal energy for heating in Europe. Examples from Denmark and Spain show the use in different climates. Interviews with users and manufacturers give a good overview of this clean energy technology. The video is provided for free by the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign of the European Union.

Securing Energy for Europe, Europäische Energieversorgung
http://www.b4energy-link.de
Securing energy supplies
On 7 November 2006 a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation was signed between Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliev and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. The agreement is a further indicator of the EU's policy to diversify energy suppliers throughout the region in order to secure supply to the European market. For European consumers, the Caspian energy reserves and the pipelines that bring the oil and gas to Europe's doorstep are increasing in importance. The EU currently imports 50% of its energy needs but that figure is set to rise to 70% by 2030.

Local action for a greener Europe
http://www.energie-cites.eu/-BELIEF
"It's all about BELIEF- believing someone you know" - the EU's vision of a secure, safe and clean energy for the future cannot be reached without local leadership and action "on the ground". This video report looking at Heidelberg (Germany) and Dunkirk (France) shows how these cities run successful public communication campaigns to encourage their citizens to play their part in sustainable energy use. More than 20 cities from 11 European countries are taking part in BELIEF, a project supported by the EU's Intelligent Energy -- Europe Programme.

The future of Solar Energy in Europe
Solar energy is not just for sunny countries. This is what the tiny Danish island of Aero is determined to prove by hosting the world's largest solar thermal plant. And in Spain, a recent law requires all new apartment buildings to have solar panels. A sign that though still not the norm, solar energy is finding its way into Europe's homes.

Infoclip: Geothermal Energy
+++THIS VIDEO ORIGINATED FROM THE EUROPA AUDIO/VISUAL SERVICE WEBSITE+++
To illustrate the decisions on the energy package presented to the European Commission on 23/1/2008, the EC's audiovisual service has produced an infoclip on geothermal energy. The "Sustainable Energy Europe" campaign sets out new objectives for geothermal energy production to be reached between 2005 and 2008, ie 250,000 new heat pumps, 15 new electric power plants and 10 new low energy power plants. Italy was the first country in the world to use geothermal energy, with its first generation plant installed in Larderello, Southern Tuscany in 1911. Larderello's geothermal plants today produce 10 % of the world's supply of geothermal energy, while powering a million Italian households. This infoclip shows the...

European cities promote widespread use of bikes
http://europa.eu/50/news/article/070914_mobility_en.htm
The bicycle is still having trouble imposing itself in the European urban environment. Getting around town on a bike can be a real battle. Projects, financed by the Intelligent Energy - Europe programme, helped in Bucharest (RO), Bolzano (I) and Bromley(UK).

Water from Holland to Africa (European Water and Energy Plan)
Hello, my name is Wessel Meijer. I am from Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
With this movie I want to show you my plan for the large scale production of durable and clean energy.
Transportation of fresh water is the most important part of the plan. I would like to see a fresh water pipeline that runs from northern Europe to north-west Africa, into the Sahara desert.
Oil and gas is already being transported over thousands of kilometers, so transporting fresh water over such distances should be a piece of cake.
With plenty of fresh water we can plant forests and other plants in Spain and in the Sahara.
Trees and plants grow on C O 2, so large forests will absorb large amounts of C O 2. Large forests will produce wood and clean air in return. Large forests in the south will have a...

Europe between the climate change and the energy security
Out with the old, in with the new. In a bid to boost energy security, Lithuania wants two new nuclear reactors to be up and running within the next seven years. The EU obliges the Ignalina power plant's last Soviet-era units - considered unsafe by western standards - to be shut down less than three years from now.

European Smart Energy Tour - Part I
In the spring of 2008, 22 students, professors, professionals, and community members from San Luis Obispo, California embarked on a journey to Europe. They traveled to England, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden to learn about smart energy solutions. The group visited cities that exhibited best practices for sustainability in the following areas: renewable energy, innovative transportation, green building, smart growth, energy efficiency, and conservation. The group sought out those areas to be able to bring back some of the lessons and ideas to the United States.

Infoclip: Photovoltaic Energy
+++THIS VIDEO ORIGINATED FROM THE EUROPA AUDIO/VISUAL SERVICE WEBSITE+++
To illustrate the decisions on the energy package presented to the European Commission on 23/1/2008, the EC's audiovisual service has produced an infoclip on photovoltaic energy. The Serpa Solar Plant, in Portugal, is one of the largest producers of solar energy in the world. Its construction was completed in January 2007 and the plant's 52,000 panels cover an area of 60 hectares. Enough electricity is produced to power 8,000 homes and farms in the Alentejo Region which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by over 30,000 tons per year. The European Union granted 3,675,576.63 euros to help co-finance the project. This infoclip includes the following : - aerial views of the solar plant - solar panels -...

20% renewable energy by 2020
Raising the share of renewable energy from 8.5% to 20% in the overall energy consumption is a necessary contribution to the global fight against climate change and towards better control over our energy dependence. The various uses of renewable energy are examined: electricity through wind and hydraulic energies; electricity or heat through geothermal and solar energies; electricity, heat, and biofuel coming from biomass. The EU is a world leader in the use and deployment of technologies that exploit renewable energy sources, providing over 350.000 jobs and an annual turn-over of € 30 billion.

So! the Bush Administration is upset with Switzerland for planning to buy gas from Iran. Forgetting for the moment that Iran and Russia just happen to be sitting on the two largest sources of natural gas on Earth just where does the half wit in the White House think other countries are going to get their gas supplies. Bush might not like it but just what can he do to supply Switzerland with its gas needs? Perhaps a lot of gas and hot air from Rush Limbaugh!
No wonder other countries are tuning out this idiot in the White House. Just look at the mess we are in after two terms with this joke. Can anyone blame other countries for not listening to him.
