In an article published in Taiwan-based newspaper China Times, a staff news reporter in Shanghai asked the views of China’s Generation Y—those born between 1981 and 1995—in China’s bustling metropolis, following Taiwan’s presidential election on March 22, about their views toward Taiwan and Tibet. The interviews revealed some dramatic changes in perceptions held by the younger generation about cross-Strait relations (China Times [Taiwan], March 24).

Dalai Lama attacks China over Tibet -16 March 08 The Dalai Lama is condemning what he calls China's rule of terror. Chinese police are reported to be going from door to door in the capital Llhasa, hunting Tibetans involved in the most serious uprising against Chinese rule for nearly 20 years. Free Tibet Olympics Protest at Great Wall of China Six Tibet independence activists from the UK, US, and Canada (1) were detained today after rappelling from the top of the Great Wall of China with a 450-square foot protest banner reading "One World, One Dream, Free Tibet 2008" in English and Chinese. The dramatic action took place on the eve of the one-year countdown to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Tibet advocacy groups assert that China is attempting to use the 2008 Games as a tool to legitimize its illegal occupation of Tibet. Cars and shops have been set ablaze in the Tibetan capital Lhasa amid demands for independence from China. Reports say Chinese police have fired on protestors, leaving at least two people dead. One witness said around 400 demonstrators had been confronted by a thousand riot police as they threw rocks and set fire to cars and buses. The Dalai Lama has denied Chinese allegations that he had masterminded the unrest."
