Posted by Matt in April 9th, 2008

Israel’s intelligence community has concluded that the next war would involve missiles and Hizbullah, last at least a month and include Syria.

The intelligence community has drafted a series of scenarios for Israel’s emergency services to prepare for future war. The scenarios envisioned the next war as including massive missile and rocket salvos, some of them containing chemical weapons, on Israeli cities.

The 1948 Israeli War of Independence
The 1948 Israeli War of Independence began when the United Nations decided to partition Palestine into separated Jewish and Arab states. The Arabs were not staisfied with the deal, as they wanted Palestine to be for Arabs only. They said that they would "fight for every inch of our country." Riots ensued almost immediately after the Partition Plan was approved. Arabs were able to take over many British military bases, and used the weaponry they acquired to launch attacks on Jewish communities. Jewish militias fought back, and after the British left Palestine, Israel was declared a state. The 1948 War of Independence was a conflict that was instigated by the proposition of a compromise. For that reason, the topic is consistent with the theme of "Conflict and Compromise," though the...

DAM, "Born Here", Hebrew/Arabic with English subtitles
Palestinian rap group DAM (Da Arab MC's, or "blood" in Arabic and Hebrew) created this music video about the life of Palestinians in Israel. They're from Lod, a town between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, so they're Palestinians with Israeli citizenship (often called "Israeli Arabs"). They usually rap in Arabic, but they made a Hebrew version of this song with a music video to get their message out to the majority of Israelis who don't speak Arabic. You find out more about them at http://www.dampalestine.com/main.html . I've always wanted a subtitled version, so I broke down and adapted the lyrics from their website, to create this. I think this is one of the most powerful rap songs out there. See http://moomtastic.com/born-here.html to see my extended comments on the video and its chorus.

I pray for the safety of Barack Obama, and I pray that he can shift the United States attitude to this question. But as you know, Palestine cannot free itself. It is a small country against a huge superpower. The real problem is not in Palestine. It's not even in London or Washington. The real problem is in the Arab world. From Marrakesh to Bahrain -- 300 million Arabs, oil at 136 dollars per barrel... If the Arabs wanted to solve this Palestine problem, they could do so in six days. [...] The Americans are not in a position to intervene anywhere in the Arab world, because they have been defeated by the muqawama...

Free Palestine: DAM -innocent criminals (arab rap hip hop)
by http://guerrillaradio.iobloggo.com/ DAM (دام) is the first Palestinian rap group. The group, based in Palestine was founded in 1998, and is made up of three Palestinian men: Tamer Nafar, his brother Suhell, and their friend Mahmoud Jr. The group's name is the Arabic word for "blood",(دم) but can also be an acronym for "Da Arabic MCs." DAM sings primarily in Arabic, but also in English and Hebrew to widen their audience appeal. The group's lyrics often deal with the frustration at the feeling of being second class citizens in Israel, as well as other issues familiar to hip-hop fans around the world, including drug-related violence. DAM logo"Our city, Lod, is considered the biggest drug market in the Middle East. You can get everything here - including weed and cocaine," says...
