Racist killings increase in Russia.
Jul. 21 - Human rights groups say authorities have been slow to act on a trend that has seen a rise in attacks on migrants.
Russia's booming economy has attracted cheap laborr from the post-Soviet countries in recent years but human rights groups say racist attacks on non-Slavic looking people are on the rise and that authorities have not done enough to stop the trend.
Michelle Carlile-Alkhouri reports.

Government buildings, including the Parliament, were evacuated when the bombs fell.
Heavy casualties have reported on both sides since Russian forces moved Friday into South Ossetia, a pro-Russian autonomous region of Georgia.
Russian bombers were targeting Georgia's economic infrastructure, National Security Council secretary Alexander Lomaia said, including the country's largest Black Sea port, Poti, and the main road connecting the southern part of Georgia with the east and the airport.
Georgian television reported that the port had been destroyed.
Georgia, a former Soviet state, sent troops into South Ossetia on Thursday, aiming to crack down on the separatists, who want independence or unification with North Ossetia, which is in Russia....

Georgian city gori Bombed by Russian forces
Georgia is openly invaded by Russian military forces. Cities and villages of the entire country are bombed. Hundreds of civilians are being killed, thousands of people are homeless, material loss for the country infrastructure is vast.
Georgia never wanted the war. We are punished for our aspiration to become part of democratic world. Today our choice for the West is threatened. Russian aggression is a challenge to the international community as well.
We, the civil society organizations of Georgia call for:
World democratic community to take quick and effective measures to stop Russian intervention;
Armed forces of Russian Federation to leave immediately territory of Georgia.
Every minute is critical for the lives of innocent civilians in Georgia.

Russia deploys new air defence system
Considering that our country likes to send in planes and drop bombs to destroy key infrastructure in the country that we want to invade. I would much rather have talks with Russia and listen when they say not to put missiles in Poland and Ukraine. This could lead our country in a war that will lead to a stalemate or nuclear destruction.
These surface to air missile can track our stealth technology very easily. I wouldn't be a US Pilot going against this. And this is only the first line of Air Defense. There is three lines or Air Defense.
I don't know why we are backing up Georgia knowing full well that they were the aggressors. And I don't know why the White House still insists that Russia are the ones that started it. Why did Fox News stop short the interview with US...

Georgia did not believe Russia would respond to its offensive in South Ossetia and was completely unprepared for the counter-attack, the deputy defence minister has admitted.
Batu Kutelia told the Financial Times that Georgia had made the decision to seize the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali despite the fact that its forces did not have enough anti-tank and air defences to protect themselves against the possibility of serious resistance.
"Unfortunately, we attached a low priority to this," he said, sitting at a desk with the flags of Georgia and Nato (to which Georgia does not belong) crossed behind him. "We did not prepare for this kind of eventuality."

U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has arrived in Tbilisi for a brief visit on Thursday. It comes as U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has said Washington will donate more than $US 1 billion worth of economic aid to Georgia.
At the start of his visit Cheney said that the U.S. has a deep and unbending interest in the region.
The aid package is aimed at helping the country rebuild its economy and infrastructure following last month's war. The State Department says none of the money will go towards military support - a concern that Moscow has raised repeatedly.
Rice said the cash would meet "Georgia's pressing humanitarian needs and facilitate its economic reconstruction."
