Brazil rides out the 'oil storm' - 21 Jun 08
While much of the world grapples with the current fuel crisis, Brazil is one country that's been able to ride out the storm.
This is attributed to the country producing almost all the fuel it needs.
With many natural gas and oil fields still untapped, Petrobras - the country's state-owned oil company - is set to become a big player in the region.
Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman took an inside look at the company's workings.

Brazil emerges as an oil giant
While many Latin American countries have seen their oil production dip, Brazils state-controlled Petrobras — the biggest company in Brazil — is working to access the billions of barrels of crude oil that rest beneath the countrys waters over the next few years.
The companys 48,986-ton P-51 oil platform rests over a hundred miles off the coast of Brazil and is the first semisubmersible platform built entirely in Brazil. It may produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil a day.
Worldfocus correspondent Edie Magnus and producers Bryan Myers and Meghan Thompson report from Angra dos Reis, south of Rio de Janeiro, on Brazils unfolding role as oil giant.

Oil Discovery in Brazil

*Brazil's state-owned oil company Petrobas announced the discovery of a gigantic oil field Tupi, off Brazil's southeastern Atlantic coast, last November. The Tupi field reserves to between 5 billion and 8 billion barrels which is equivalent to 40 percent of all the oil discoveries in Brazil. In April, Petrobas says that it has discovered a new offshore oil field off the coast of Rio de Janeiro which is waiting to be confirmed. The new monster oil field appears to be the world's third-largest oil and gas reserve, bearing an estimated volume of 33 billion barrels of oil. When this new oil field is confirmed and made official, Brazil could become one of the top 10 countries by reserves and be a sulf-sufficient...
