Controlling the Bird Flu
A U.N. official praises Indonesia for its progress in curbing bird flu despite having the world's highest death toll.
CHAN:
The U.N. is praising Indonesia for its handling of bird flu. This comes despite a recent outbreak which brought the country's death toll surpassed 100. Here's more.
STORY:
The country's death toll hit 101 on Tuesday. The latest victim is a 32-year-old man from west of Jakarta.
Indonesia lead the world's toll of infected people with 124 human cases. The deadly virus killed six people alone in January. Contact with sick birds is the most common way of contracting the
virus.
Fighting bird flu has been difficult in Indonesia as millions of backyard fowl live in close proximity to humans. Health education campaigns have often been patchy and rules difficult to...

UNICEF: Girl and boy scouts fight bird flu in Indonesia
WEST JAVA, Indonesia, 19 August 2008 -- More than 5,000 Indonesian boy and girl scouts have pledged to fight the battle against avian influenza in their home province of West Java. The scouts recently gathered at a seaside town in Sukabumi district to learn about bird flu and how they can help protect their communities from the deadly virus.
The event was a small part of a massive nationwide campaign that was launched in 2006, when experts warned that if the virus mutated, it could lead to a global pandemic.
"Since we started the campaign, we have worked with teachers and students, community members and religious leaders to get these life-saving messages out to the public," said UNICEF West Java Field Office Chief Steve Aswin. "The scouts of Indonesia are a great way to build on that...

UNICEF: Stepping up bird-flu awareness after deaths in Bali
BALI, Indonesia, 27 August 2007 -- Officials in Bali are investigating the death this weekend of a woman who may have been infected with the avian influenza virus. If confirmed, it would be the island's third death linked to the virus. Thousands of birds have already been culled in an effort to prevent a wider outbreak
Nearly 80 per cent of human victims of bird flu do not survive; about 40 per cent of them are children. More than 100 people in Indonesia have died after contracting the virus.
In cooperation with the National Bird Flu Commission, UNICEF and its UN partners have been working for the past year and a half in high-risk areas of Java and Sulawesi to raise public awareness about the risks of avian influenza.

Global Pulse - 05/15/08: Bird Flu, The Next Asian Disaster?
(May 15, 2008) In a matter of weeks, Asia has been hit with devastating natural disasters like the cyclone in Myanmar and China's earthquake. Thousands have been killed and millions left homeless. While millions suffer there is another possible disaster spreading throughout Asia, the H5N1 virus or "bird flu". More outbreaks of the virus are spreading from Russia to South Korea leading to quick quarantines and a fear that the virus will infect humans.

Cambodia: THE BIRD FLU "PANDEMIC" HOAX! (1of2) [EN&KH]
Almost daily, the newspapers, radio stations and television programs pummel us with news of the coming Avian Flu "pandemic" and the necessity of developing vaccines and instituting mandatory vaccination programs - - - for EVERYBODY!
You may ask, "How can we believe anything? How do we make a judgment on what is really going on?" The answer is, we can learn to evaluate what they are saying about this supposed "pandemic" in the following ways:
1. The media and the New World Order/Zionist Jewish cabal are using all sorts of hyperbole when discussing this "Bird flu," exaggerations that are in no way warranted. (When something is REALLY going on, such as Mad Cow Disease or AIDS, especially in the 90s the government was/is covering up and down-playing the truth on both issues.)
2. As...

Dr. M. Gilchrist on avian flu, bioterrorism, & public health
Internationally recognized public health expert Dr. Mary Gilchrist is interviewed in this 29 minute program.
Gilchrist is the recently ousted director of the University Hygienic Lab at the University of Iowa. She was asking for lab space for state public health that would provide for a pandemic of avian influenza (among other health threats).
In her lawsuit against UI President Gary Fethke and UI VP of Research Meredith Hay she says that Hay cut 12,000 feet of new lab space and that Fethke told her, "You stuck your neck out for what you believed in and we just can't live with it."
This program first aired April 30, 2007 on PATV's "Live & Local."
