GALILEO READY FOR LAUNCH

Posted by Matt in April 24th, 2008

With EU approval for a new bidding process, Europe’s much-touted — and much delayed — Galileo, a Brussels-controlled competitor to the US’s GPS system, looks set for orbit. One satellite is being launched this weekend and the system is expected to go online by 2013. more…

Galileo project - European Space Agency (ESA)
ESA: European Space Agency http://www.esa.int Galileo projet EGNOS is a joint programme of the European Space Agency, the European Commission and Eurocontrol. EGNOS is made up of a network of more than forty elements all over Europe that collect, record, correct and improve data from the US Global Positioning System (GPS). The modified signals are then relayed via geostationary satellites to user's terminals, offering a positional accuracy of better than two metres, compared with 15 to 20 metres for GPS alone. In addition, EGNOS gives a guarantee of quality for these signals that GPS, a military system, does not provide.http://www.esa.int/esaCP/index.html CIA FBI WHITE house Sarkozy Bush alien extraterrestrial star blackhole starship universe earth manipulation espace terre étoile trou...

precise work force management system for emergency situation
This video of the Italian national television shows the first on field tests of a precise work force management system for emergency situation coordination developed for the Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico (CNSAS). The system, has shown in the video, is based on the User Terminal - Local Element technology that allows to have a centralized positioning based on GPS/Galileo enhanced with the augmentation of local DGPS or EGNOS. The prototype has been developed by the NavSAS Group (www.navsas.ismb.it) in the navigation lab of the Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB www.ismb.it).

Galileo - 47-min documentary
May 2008 Galileo is Europe's ambitious satellite navigation project, designed to rival the American GPS, and invigorate European transport and communications infrastructure. It started as an exciting, forward-looking scheme but before long descended into farce - the product of clever American diplomatic manoeuvring and destructive inter-European wrangling. From conspiracy theories to question marks over the future of the EU as a viable body, Galileo is a yarn worthy of its controversial namesake.

Makila - GNSS-EGNOS tests at Sion - english version 1/2
In november 2002, several institutes completed GNSS-EGNOS tests at Sion (Switzerland). The idea was to improve the IFR approaches and take offs. The organs who participated in the tests were Skyguide, Eurocontrol, the technical university of Braunschweig (Germany) and some students of the Swiss federal institute of technology of Lausanne.

EGNOS World Rally Championship Demonstration
This clip illustrates the difference between standard and augmented GPS systems. The GPS augmentation is EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service), and is similar in accuracy to the Europeam Galileo GSP service. The vehicle used was from the 2005 WRC Rally in Germany. This video and associated .exe for accuracy verification is FREELY available from: http://www.mqltechnologies.com/product_2dmm.htm c.f. http://www.esa.int/esaNA/SEMZV9A5QCE_egnos_0.html

Galileo, time and space
When Galileo, Europe's own global satellite navigation system, is fully operational, there will be 30 satellites in Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) at an altitude of 23 222 kilometres. Ten satellites will occupy each of three orbital planes inclined at an angle of 56° to the equator. The satellites will be spread evenly around each plane and will take about 14 hours to orbit the Earth. One satellite in each plane will be a spare; on stand-by should any operational satellite fail. Planners and engineers at ESA had good reasons for choosing such a structure for the Galileo constellation. With 30 satellites at such an altitude, there is a very high probability (more than 90%) that anyone anywhere in the world will always be in sight of at least four satellites and hence will be able to determine...

Galilio Project
Galileo, the joint initiative of the European Commission and the European Space Agency, is becoming a reality. Once the Galileo network of 30 satellites is complete, the system will be able to provide numerous navigational services on and around the Earth. Accurate navigation and search and rescue operations are just two of many possible examples. While waiting for Galileo to become operational, Europe already has a positioning system in place: EGNOS, a network of ground stations transmitting GPS enhancement signals via geostationary satellites. Galileo is a joint effort of the European Commission and the European Space Agency which purpose is to develop a civilian-controlled global positioning system.
