U.S.: N. Korea Gave Syria Nuclear Help
CHAN:
Yesterday in Washington, D.C. the Central Intelligence Agency or CIA, briefed Congress on Syria's nuclear ambitions. They say one nuclear power plant in Syria was not for peaceful purposes. Here's more on this story.
STORY:
A stunning allegation by the White House—North Korea helped Syria build a covert nuclear reactor facility within its borders. The disclosure comes seven months after Israel bombed the suspected nuclear
site in Syria's eastern desert...but Washington had never confirmed those suspicions until now.
During an intelligence briefing with lawmakers, U.S. officials played a narrated video showing what they said were photos of the nuclear reactor.
Before and after aerials of the facility showed structures officials said were key parts of a nuclear reactor capable...

CIA video showing suspected Syrian nuclear reactor
http://mprofaca.cro.net
The Global Intelligence News Portal
The United States releases photographs of what it claims is a Syrian nuclear reactor built with North Korean help.
The reactor was destroyed by Israel in an air strike on 6 Sept 2007.
The attack was initially shrouded in secrecy out of what the Bush administration said was fear that public discussion could prompt Syria, which has long supported militant Palestinian groups, to retaliate.
"We are convinced, based on a variety of information, that North Korea assisted Syria's covert nuclear activities," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said in a statement.
"We have good reason to believe that reactor, which was damaged beyond repair on Sept. 6 of last year, was not intended for peaceful purposes," she said.
In detailed...

US accuses Syria of building weapons reactor
US intelligence officials have released pictures they say show a Syrian nuclear reactor, built with help from North Korea.
Washington claims there is good reason to believe the plant was designed for non-peaceful purposes.
But seven months after Israel bombed the facility, Syria has dismissed the US accusations as a fantasy.
Al Jazeera's Nick Spicer reports.

The Secret Syrian nuclear reactor (Hebrew/English)
"N. Koreans Tapes at Syrian Reactor," Robin Wright, Washington Post, April 24
See: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/24/AR2008042402382.html?hpid=topnews
US intelligence officials concluded that a secret Syrian nuclear reactor was expected to make fuel for nuclear weapons and was within weeks or months of being fully operational when it was destroyed in September by an Israeli air strike, officials said today.
"The reactor would have been capable of producing plutonium for nuclear weapons, was not configured to produce electricity and was ill suited for research," concluded an intelligence document released today.
The assessments released to reporters followed similar briefings to members of Congress today about photographs taken inside the secret Syrian...

Syria, N Korea, and Iran Pt 1
U.S. intelligence agencies have publicly presented their finding that Syria was building a secret nuclear reactor with help from North Korea. The reactor complex, which could have produced the material for nuclear weapons, was attacked in September by the Israeli Air Force. After the site was bombed, Syria itself destroyed what was left. White House press secretary Dana Perino said that "This cover-up only served to reinforce our confidence that this reactor was not intended for peaceful purposes." When Israel bombed the Syrian nuclear site, the U.S. remained studiously silent about the attack. U.S. President George Bush said that caution dictated keeping quiet. "We were concerned," he said, "that an early disclosure would increase the risk of a confrontation in the Middle East." Why,...

US demands report on Syria nuclear program
What I want to Say here is that Bush administration is trying to fabricate these evidence to accuse nations - which are not its allies - in having a nuclear program. Having a nuclear program is a right for any nation. Even having atomic bomb is also a right. You may be surprised about my last sentence. If we just take a look to the worlds super powers, you will know what I mean. All nations which are considered as super powers are having a nuclear bomb and even more. I know that they are not using it, however, it helps them in defending themselves. Imagine that Iraq was having such bombs, Was America going to attack and occupy it? I doubt, especially if we compare the Iraqs model to the North Korean model. America is...

A CNN producer reported that the North Korean authorities did indeed destroy the cooling tower of the Yongbyong nuclear facility and admitted on global television that they did extract plutonium in the said facility to build nuclear weapons.
Five television networks from countries party to the six-nation talks that constructively engaged North Korea to disengage in its nuclear weapons program were invited into the country to cover and televise the destruction of the cooling...

Syria' Nuclear Activities Must Be Investigated
Freshly evaluated soil and air samples from a Syrian site bombed by Israel on suspicion it was a covert nuclear reactor provide enough evidence to push ahead with a UN probe, diplomats said Tuesday. The findings are important after months of uncertainty about the status of the investigation by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Beyond wanting to revisit the site bombed nearly 14 months ago by Israel, IAEA experts also want to follow up on US, Israeli and other intelligence that North Korea was involved in building the alleged Syrian program. As well, IAEA officials have been seeking permission to visit three other sites purportedly linked to the alleged reactor destroyed by the Israelis - although Sy

Officials say N. Korea helped Syria build reactor
Hello, I'm Kristin Volk on this Thursday, the 24 day of April 2008 with a UPI news update.
U.S. officials will tell lawmakers on Capitol Hill today that North Korea helped Syria build a nuclear reactor. The U.S. reportedly has video footage of a suspected nuclear reactor site in Syria with North Koreans inside. That site was destroyed by Israeli warplanes last September. Syria has repeatedly denied that it has any nuclear weapons program or any agreement with North Korea.
President Bush will nominate his top Iraq commander to lead U.S. military operations throughout the Middle East. Army General David Petraeus will become head of Central Command. Lieutenant General Raymond Odierno who's the number 2 commander in Iraq will take Petraeus' current job. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said...
