Australia's drought-stricken rice fields - 23 April 2008
The worst drought in a century has reduced crops in New South Wales to a record low, severely affecting farmers and pushing up prices worldwide.
Al Jazeera's David Hardaker looks at the situation in the country's rice bowl and how the knock-on effect from a sparse yield is adding pressure on the world's poorest.

Australian Drought Crisis
Today Australia is suffering from the worst drought on 100 years. Major water sources have or are drying up. Life is tough on land.
The song in the clip is called "Tears from the sky" sung by paul Dillon. It is the song used by the Salvations Army's Drought Relief campaign ad.
The website at the end of the clip is to download the song for a donation. All money to go to farmers suffering from the stress and hopefully to reduce the high suicide rate among farmers.

My name is Hugh Robert Charles Innes and I am 31 years old. My family and I have gone through the worst times a family can go through only second to a death. And that is the loss of your home and everything you know which happened in 1995. I grew up on a 22,000 acre Brahman cattle stud which is the fourth oldest registered brand of cattle in Australia.
I think things will get worse on our great continent due to climate change unless people start to listen. This means no money, loss of livelihoods and family homes, depression and even suicide. This is where my poems come into play. As global warming must be taken seriously my words are from the heart and are true. Man must stop yawning the earth has never had a population density like now which means greater problems, man must stop...
