This article provides an excellent example of how things that never occurred to you could derail China’s charge on the world scene today. China will not overtake the United States for many reasons: demography, corruption, enviromental damage and more. Now we can add in invasive plants, and China’s inability to cope.
The relatively recent expansion of China’s overseas trade probably accounts for China’s being less invaded than the United States by alien plants, but the potential for invasion of China by shrubs, trees, climbers and aquatic plants is high. Decisive action is needed now to avert potentially large economic losses from invasive plants in China and other countries in Asia.

FDA Never Inspected Chinese Heparin Plants

Additional details about Baxter Healthcare Corporations, urgent recall of Heparin, a prescription injectable blood coagulant often used in hemodialysis (the filtering of blood) and cardiac invasive procedures, on January 25th 2008 are now being released. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported that it never inspected the Chinese manufacturing plant that provides Baxter with the active ingredient of the drug.
