Abkhazia starts war with Georgia (Russia Today)
The situation is escalating in Georgia's second breakaway republic - Abkhazia. Its troops are on the move towards the security zone in the Gali region close to the border with Georgia. Meanwhile they are continuing a military operation to dislodge Georgian forces in the upper Kodori Gorge in northern Abkhazia.

Georgia plans to attack Abkhazia - Russia
Russia has information that Georgia is planning a military attack on Abkhazia to seize the capital Sukhumi, the Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff, Colonel General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, told a media briefing in Moscow on Monday. He said that the military potential of Georgia was being restored for a repeated act of aggression.
"We have received serious intelligence information, and we shall discuss in detail the Georgian-Abkhazian direction on Tuesday," he said.
"The information is serious. If many media outlets still see Russia as the aggressor in the South Ossetian direction, the plan for seizing Sukhumi is so clear that we shall be able to prove that Georgia was the aggressor in the second direction as well," he added.

Georgian Separatist Regions Cause Friction Between Moscow, Tbilisi
Relations remain tense between Russia and Georgia several weeks after Georgian forces killed two Russian military officers in the Georgian separatist region of Abkhazia.
Abkhazia is located in the northwestern corner of Georgia while South Ossetia is situated in the north-central part of that country. Both areas border Russia.
Robert Legvold with Columbia University says the two regions are technically part of Georgia, but each has a strong separatist movement with different goals in mind.

Georgia releases footage of 'Russian jet attack' - 21 Apr 08
Georgia says this footage show a Russian MiG-29 jet destroying an unmanned reconnaisance aircraft in its air space.
Russia has denied the allegations and questioned why Tbilisi would be flying such an aircraft over the breakaway region of Abkhazia.

Ethnic Cleansing created more than three hundred thousands refugees and displaced persons in Georgia during the war in Abkhazia. A senior Russian general has warned Georgia's breakaway province of Abkhazia that Russian peacekeepers in the region will not maintain restraint if they continue to face provocation. The threat came in response to the brief detention of four peacekeepers near Abkhazia, sparking an angry response from Moscow.
A senior Russian military official said Georgian police detained a group of Russian peacekeepers on Tuesday. Georgia claimed they were transporting weapons without permission.
