On leaving the presidency in 1961, Dwight Eisenhower gave an astounding speech for a man who had spent most of his life in the military. He warned the people of the U.S. that they were in serious danger of handing over their cherished democracy to a shady group he referred to as the "military-industrial complex."
Ike warned that in order to increase their profits and consolidate their power, this amalgam of military industries and former military and government professionals would basically conduct a coup to solidify their control over U.S. foreign policy and therefore satisfy their own greed.

Blackwater - A new Account of the Killing Part 1
Legal and political woes continue for the private military firm Blackwater. Iraq's Interior Minister announced this week he would authorize raids against Western military firms to ensure compliance with Iraqi weaponry laws. Scrutiny of the private military industry in Iraq has peaked following the killing of seventeen Iraqis by Blackwater guards in September.
Meanwhile, here in the United States, the Bush administration has shown its first audible signs of distancing itself from Blackwater. Dwight D Eisenhower's urgent concern when leaving office in 1961 was that future leaders as well as the people of the United States might not realize the immense responsibility that comes with having the worlds largest military industry.
Military spending is essential for the defense of a nation, but when peoples of a nation are manipulated by fear tactics brought on by a government anxious to demonstrate military might, we have a problem. This is not defense. It is offensive in every sense of the word.
John McCain has no idea what he's signing the American people up for. He wants to further justify future terrorist attacks by continuing our nations course as the agressors. Fellow Americans, our time is now. America must unite and turn the page and end the self-perpetuating war...
