China's Darkside: what the mainstream media won't cover
China being considered a police state isn't anything new. Since the Tiananmen Square massacre it has indeed been quite obvious that civil rights of the entire country are in an alarming state.
Journalists are becoming more explicit and clashes between media and government are increasing.
Mine explosions, incidents of state sponsored organ harvesting, strikes, sit-ins, petitions, police clashes are by now the daily agenda.
Below the surface China is seething with discontent.
Take a moment for this behind the scenes report from Dominic Waghorn of Sky News amd get educated on the real political climate of the East. This is what the mainstream media will NOT cover here, and it's just scratching the surface.
For another report of Dominic's...

Chinese civilization for Five Thousand Years8-2Later Tang
The An Shi Rebellion (simplified Chinese: 安史之乱; traditional Chinese: 安史之亂; pinyin: Ān Shǐ Zhīluàn) took place in China during the Tang Dynasty, from December 16, 755 to February 17, 763. It is also known as the Tianbao Rebellion (天寶之亂), because An Lushan started it in the 14th year of that namesake era. The alternative term An Lushan Rebellion neglects the participation of Shi Siming, a subordinate of An Lushan who later became the leader of the rebellion.
An Lushan
A Northern Qi stone stele depicting Sogdian musicians. An Lushan was a general of Sodgian-Turkic ancestry (i.e., non-Han). He was appointed by the Xuanzong emperor (following the suggestion of Yang Guifei and with the agreement of Li Linfu) to be commander (節度使) of three garrisons in the...

Soaring Inflation in China and Hong Kong
Consumers and Officials in China are worried as prices jump to an 11-year high.
WONG:
Inflation and food prices in China are soaring. People are complaining that they cannot afford to shop for the Chinese New Year festival.
STORY:
Food prices are soaring in China, hitting the highest inflation value in 11 years. As the main source of food imports, inflation in the Mainland is also causing inflation in Hong Kong.
[Mrs. Kau, Hong Kong Shopper]:
"Now I pay 20 dollars for pork for one meal. Before, I could buy two or three meals for that price."
A price rise is normal during the Chinese New Year rush, but this year it's uncommonly steep. Residents don't want the high prices of liquor to dampen the festivities.
[Jiang, Customer]:
"Lots of people come round and friends arrive, you can't...

Chen Jiagang 陈家刚 at China Square Gallery - July 12, 2007
I had a great time at this opening, and ran into some friends while I was there. I also noticed that a lot of people there were wearing fancy shoes!
Chen Jiangang's narrative images reflect the drastic binarism of China's booming cities and stagnant countryside. Chen's large scale use of space engages the viewer in the conflict between man and his surroundings, what is forgotten and longed for, the present and the past.
Full of social and political commentary, the images in the exhibition portray certainty and uncertainty; the confidence of China's development and the question of its ramifications. Shown by the juxtaposition of things plundered and revered, places forgotten and revisited, Chen's work captures a disappearing history that seems silent and still. Further exploration reveals...

Chinese Food On Christmas
For the sheet music, mp3, or ring tone, go to brandonwalkermusic.com
Happy Holidays!
And now, a word from the writer . . .
A number of people have expressed their discontent with the way Jews are portrayed in some of the scenes in this video. To these people I say, the music video for 'Chinese Food On Christmas' is a satire. It employs outrageous scenarios, such as a car full of Jews slamming on the brakes to pick up a coin, to show just how silly and ridiculous our stereotypes can be. Jews are one of the most charitable cultural groups in the world, and anyone who takes any time to look into these stereotypes will realize that they are simply untrue.

Business as Usual but Tensions Remain in Xinjiang
ANCHOR:
It's business as usual in China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region after reports of protests, but distrust still remains between ethnic Muslims and the Chinese population.
STORY:
At Khotan's bazaar vendors barter livestock and haggle over spices. It's business as usual again. But just two weeks ago demonstrations broke out here, which is just what China's communist authorities fear -- all the more so since the wave of unrest throughout ethnic Tibetan areas.
The western city of Khotan (pronounced: ho-tan), known as Hetian (pronounced:
her-teeann) in Chinese, lies on the route of the ancient Silk Road in China's
Xinjiang Autonomous Region. It borders Pakistan and Afghanistan and is rich in oil. Uighurs, are Turkic-speaking, Muslim people who make up about half of the population of...

BN Losing Battles with DAP on Chinese Votes
Penang Chinese voters have a well-deserved reputation for being hard to predict. Just ask the MCA or Gerakan. Many formerly "safe" seats are now considered "hot", owing to general discontent among voters, in particular those from the middle class. At the moment, MCA's danger areas are the Sungai Puyu, Bagan Jermal, Paya Terubong and Air Puteh state seats and the Bukit Mertajam and Bagan parliamentary seats. Gerakan, meanwhile, is having problems in the Sungai Pinang, Batu Lanchang, Air Itam and Datuk Keramat state seats and the Tanjung and Batu Kawan parliamentary seats. A veteran Gerakan politician, who preferred to remain anonymous, said there was an all-out war for the Chinese votes between MCA and Gerakan, on the BN side, and the DAP-led opposition, who are harping on the state's...

Huangdi Neijing黄帝内经:医史篇5-2走出洪荒的岁月上
Yi Yin (Chinese: 伊尹; pinyin: Yī Yǐn; 1648 BC--1549 BC), also known as Yī Zhì (伊挚), was a prime minister of the early Shang Dynasty. He was one of the most honoured officials of the early Shang Dynasty. He helped Cheng Tang, the founder of the Shang dynasty, to defeat Xia Jie.
Toppling Xia Jie
Yi Yin helped Tang defeat Jie, but he did so without using rash tactics. So he said to Tang when Tang proposed to attack King Jie," We have not sent tributes yet, let's test Jie's influence over the nine tribes."
The nine tribes were crucial to the Xia Dynasty as they were the vassal states of Xia.
As Yi Yin predicted, King Jie became angry and sent the nine tribes to attack the state of Shang. Then Yi Yin laughed and said," Jie can still call on the nine tribes to attack us, let's...

Suharto's Rivals Unite - Indonesia
Feb 1998
We meet President Suharto's opposition and discover that calls for him to go grow ever louder. Amien Rais is the leader of the Muslim group Muhammadiya, with 28 million followers. He has joined forces with Megawati Sukarnoputri to oppose Suharto in the coming elections. Suharto has been in power for 30 years, his rule bolstered by his cronies and a repressive army. A Trade Unionist is secretly interviewed in his hospital cell - he's on trial for 'subversion', and if found guilty, could face the death penalty. It's a measure of the insecurity of Suharto's undemocratic regime. Megawati supporters are beaten with batons by Indonesian troops at a demo. Megawati herself bemoans the violence. In contrast, some anti-Chinese demonstrations appear to have been actually organised by the...
