KOREAN BEEF: North Korea's Nuclear Weapons
In April 2003, North Korean officials admitted for the first time that their nation possessed the ability to build nuclear weapons. Many experts suggest that the possible possession of nuclear weapons by a so-called rogue state such as North Korea sets the stage for a far more serious conflict than the war with Iraq. Just how should the United States try to diffuse the Korean crisis? Can diplomatic efforts succeed where they have previously failed? Will the United States have to consider military options? And just what is North Korea hoping to accomplish by fomenting this crisis?

US Welcomes North Korea Nuclear Declaration
North Korea's long-awaited nuclear declaration and the U.S. response to lift certain sanctions against Pyongyang is the first step in a long verification process aimed at creating a nuclear-free Korean peninsula. The actions also represent a turnaround in the Bush administration's policy toward the North Korean regime, once branded by President Bush as part of an "axis of evil." More from VOA's Bill Rodgers.

North Korea Nuclear Deal
"All you want is this incomplete verification document right?"
*For years, the United States and the international community have tried to negotiate an end to North Korea's nuclear program. A declaration which was part of a landmark six-nation deal, was reached last year saying that North Korea agreed to end its nuclear weapons program in return for energy aid, diplomatic recognition and security guarantees. Six month after the declaration, North Korea finally submitted a long-awaited document that listed its nuclear holdings, which was viewed as somewhat imcomplete, and agreed to destroy the cooling tower at Yongbyon nuclear reactor. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill announced that verification will be the most important aspect and nothing will proceed without...

"I don't think we will have any agreement, we are not looking for an agreement. We are looking to have a consultation on some of the issues that have kept us apart. They know exactly what the issues...
