THE CONFIRMATION by an international forensics team that laptops and hard drives captured by Colombia originated in a camp of FARC terrorists ought to open a new era in relations between the democratic world and Hugo Chávez’s Venezuelan government. Whether it does will depend to a large extent on how Colombia and the United States handle a rich but tricky diplomatic opportunity.

Before accepting any nonsense about Chavez being a terrorist it must be remembered that the Bush Administration tried and failed to stage a coup to overthrow Chavez. The coup didn’t work. Like most of George Bush’s other efforts at accompolishing something he failed again. It’s good that he failed in this case though. When the criminal enterprise known as the Bush Administration is finally removed perhaps the World can get on with the business at hand. Of course Bush is desperate to show that he can succeed at something somewhere and that he is not a total loser so we must all standby to see what other insane plans he might have up his sleeve.
So far he hasn’t been able to outshine his daddy at all, in spite of all his efforts.
