Did China’s Hackers Shut Off the Lights?

Posted by Matt in May 29th, 2008

Hackers working on behalf of China’s People’s Liberation Army have penetrated networks controlling electric power grids in the United States, computer security experts believe. And that may have precipitated a massive blackout on the east coast in 2003, as well as a blackout in Florida this year.

That’s just one blockbuster assertion in a long story full of them, from National Journal scoopster Shane Harris.

FBI Confidential -- China's Cyber Terrorism?
According to a leaked secret FBI document, Chinese counterfeiters have sold close to 75 million dollars of fake Cisco Systems routers to the U.S. military. This revelation raises troubling questions about both the integrity of U.S. defenses in cyberspace and the possible motives of a foreign government with a long rap sheet for military espionage and cyber hacking. At least some of China's fake routers may be specially designed to provide Chinese hackers with undetectable "back doors" into the highest echelons of classified information throughout the defense department bureaucracy.

Jokela High And Virginia Tech , which were bad, and The iPhone and The Wii, which were good!! There was all that business with the pesky Chinese Hackers, which was bad, and then there´s Ron Jeremy doing techie news...which is.......good?

Update on Pentagon Hacking Incident
http://videos.webpronews.com The Pentagon has confirmed that computer hackers obtained access to an unclassified email system in the office of Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman did release a statement that the classified systems were not in any danger. It is suspected that the Chinese People's Liberation Army is responsible for the intrusion, especially since Germany has also made accusations against the Chinese army for a computer hacking incident. The Pentagon declined to comment on the whether the Chinese army was responsible or not. Catch all the details in the full story, right here on WebProNews.

China's Cyber Warriors (1/3)
In an atmosphere of international disapproval of the Chinese government's policies on human rights and communications, these youth staunchly defend their nation against Western influence. Their anger is not isolated to the United States. In April this year, young Chinese protested against Tibet an independence and called for a boycott of French retail supermarket Carrefour rally outside one of its branches in Changchun. They singled out France and Carrefour after French protests marred the Olympic torch relay in Paris with bitter demonstrations against human rights abuses. They carried boards which read "Patriotism is not wrong," "Boycott is reasonable," and "Carrefour get out of China." Dateline meets these passionate activists, to hear their side of the story.

Pokemon Blue (Green) Chinese Version (pirate)
Just a hack of Pokemon Blue USA, translated into Chinese and called Green. BTW, when I visited China, I saw A LOT of pirated and translated Chinese versions of Pokemon games. Luckily, a bunch of people decided to dump them into ROMs playable on the PC, and you can get them at http://www.dgemu.com . The bad thing is, you can't name yourself properly anymore. It's either the preset names or numbers on the "name yourself" screen. No, that thing saying "Enemy *insert Pokemon here* died" is not wrong. It really says "died" in Chinese O_o

Final Fantasy 7 NES Version (Chinese Hack)
I know I really suck at this, but you try playing FF7 on the NES *and* in Chinese and see how well you do! With that out of the way, let me say this is one very professional hack. Would be nice if someone could translate this. Also, why is Barrett white? Information on this rather impressive ROM (Which only two emulators can even boot up due to mapper 163 support) can be found here: http://cinnamonpirate.com/blog/507/
