The militias, formed during Congo's civil war, now control much of the country's natural resources. The government faces a big problem disarming them.
The war may officially be over, but the militias remain. "Gold is the reason why every year, we have war and rebellions", states Ngabu Adirodu. It is still too dangerous for aid workers to travel without military escorts. The population is trapped between rival militias and the new army and many towns have been deserted. As one man states: "We are as afraid of the army as the militias."

Jefferson Davis Memorial State Historic Site

The place where the civil war ended.
For four years, Jefferson Davis had led the Confederate States of America as its President. As the Civil War drew to a close, Davis, fled Richmond, Virginia with his cabinet in early April, 1865 and began a trek southward with federal troops in pursuit; while still weighing the merits of forming a government in exile.
Reaching the farming community of Irwinville, GA, on the evening of May 9th, the remaining hopefuls, still assuming that they were a step ahead of their pursuers, set up camp near a creek bed.
Early the next morning the camp was awakened by a pop of gunfire and within minutes was surrounded by members of the First Wisconsin and Fourth Michigan...

I was not born in Kabul but I love it more then any city in the world. I have been to kabul many times. Kabul has been destroyed, by Russians, and by civil war. In 30 years of war, It may take next 30 years to build Kabul jan back the way it was in 1970s.

Essentially, the Civil War ended at this quiet spot with the capture of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. It is now maintained by Georgia's Department of Natural Resources as an historic site. It is located in Irwinville, Georgia.
