Haiti Food Crisis
June 2008 Haiti is facing a major food crisis as riots break out in the capital Port-au-Prince. Five people have died, the Prime Minister was forced to resign and authorities fear the worst is yet to come! All produce, even eggs, are imported here, leaving Haiti at the hands of the global market. Although blessed with fertile land, farmers have no machinery and are forced to use their hands. A farmer says "we cannot compete with other farmers who have the technology to back them". People are even eating mud cookies to relieve hunger. World Food Crisis
Is a change of diet key to solving global warming & food crisis. Some facts While 100 million tons of grain are being diverted to make fuel this year, over seven times as much (760 million tons) will be used to feed animals.
