Disgraced Pakistan atomic scientist AQ Khan recants

Posted by Matt in June 3rd, 2008

“The Germans have those drawings. The South Africans have those drawings. The French have those drawings. They were the suppliers. You can’t blame me for it. They were selling. They were making money. Why put blame on me?” Khan said during the interview from his villa in Islamabad, where he remains under house arrest.

Khan said that nuclear secrets obtained by North Korea came from Russia.

“All the North Korean scientists and engineers studied in Russia,” Khan said, describing Pyongyang’s program as having “excellent technology” with “very sophisticated designs.”

A Q Khan : Nuclear proliferator of Pakistan
Abdul Qadeer Khan was born into a modest family in Bhopal, India, in 1935. He migrated to Pakistan in 1952, following the country's partition from India five years earlier. He graduated from the University of Karachi before moving to Europe for further studies in West Germany and Belgium. In the 1970s, he took a job at a uranium enrichment plant run by the British-Dutch-German consortium Urenco. But in 1976, Dr Khan returned home to head up the nation's nuclear programme with the support of then prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Khan's Kahuta plant is Pakistan's main nuclear weapons laboratory. During his work, Dr Khan insisted that the programme had no military purpose, but following the 1998 tests admitted: "I never had any doubts I was building a bomb. We had to do it."...

This is a funny but very important video. Facts presented are accurate and serious. AQ khan got access to uranium enrichment technology in the west, which he proliferated left (china, north korea) right (libya, iran, saudi arabia) and center (pakistan, al quaeda, talib). China indeed has been the vicious joker in the pack. China has been proliferating weapons of mass destruction to keep her strategic competitors under check. It has transferred and proliferated weapons of mass destruction to proven rogue regimes; while at the same time being brutal with its own minority east turkistan population. In China muslim population in 1938 was ~50 million. Now it is in the 15-20 million range. (Contrast this with democratic India. Muslim population in 1947 was less than 30 million and it is...

Nuclear proliferator AQ Khan blames Pakistan government for making him scapegoat
Abdul Quadeer Khan, the metallurgist who after a stint in Europe had returned to Pakistan in the mid-1970s with stolen designs, and over the years had provided the country—single-handedly, it was widely believed—with an arsenal of nuclear weapons. Though he worked in the realm of state secrets, Khan had become something of a demigod in Pakistan, with a public reputation second only to that of the nation's founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and he had developed an ego to match. He was the head of a government facility named after him—the Khan Research Laboratories, or KRL—which had mastered the difficult process of producing highly enriched uranium, the fissionable material necessary for Pakistan's weapons, and was also involved in the design of the warheads and the missiles to deliver...

Photochor: The Truth About Pakistan's Nuclear Program
Pakistanis worship Dr. A.Q.Khan as the father of their country's nuclear program, and the inventor of the "Islamic Bomb". The international community reviles him for expanding Pakistan's catalog of major exports, which previously consisted of heroin and Islamic terrorism, to include nuclear weapons technology as well. So what's the truth? Would Dr. A.Q. Khan, whose "research" amounts to photocopying and plagiarising Dutch/German technology, be considered a "scientist" in any other country than Pakistan? How long can the Pakistan Army and government cover up their primary role in running an international black market which supplied nuclear technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea? Did Dr. A.Q. Khan's nuclear devices, which Pakistan claimed to have tested at Chagai Hills in 1998,...

Pakistan nuclear power: A sovereign nation
Pakistan's nuclear arsenal ensures that there would be no strikes by India on any part of Pakistani territories in the aftermath of Mumbai attacks. Also, it has categorically refused to hand over any "world's most wanted" criminals to India or US. However, Pakistan has literally sold its innocent citizens to US (some of them taken to Guantanamo Bay) since the inception of "war on terror". Whenever Pakistan is under pressure after some terrorist attacks (for example London 2005 bombings), they would arrest innocent civilians and brand them as militants and hand them over to US authorities. This has been going on since 2001. In a first of its kind, we have witnessed missile strikes by US on a country which is its biggest ally in the "war againt terror, that started in 2001. However,...

Pakistan Nuclear Test 28-05-1998
On May 28, 1998 Pakistan had successfully conducted five nuclear tests. The Pakistani Atomic Energy Commission reported that the five nuclear tests conducted on May 28 generated a seismic signal of 5.0 on the Richter scale, with a total yield of up to 40 KT (equivalent TNT). Dr. A.Q. Khan claimed that one device was a boosted fission device and that the other four were sub-kiloton nuclear devices. On May 30, 1998 Pakistan tested one more nuclear warhead with a reported yield of 12 kilotons. The tests were conducted at Balochistan, bringing the total number of claimed tests to six. It has also been claimed by Pakistani sources that at least one additional device, initially planned for detonation on 30 May 1998, remained emplaced underground ready for detonation.
