SUNY China 150
In May 2008, the Wenchuan earthquake struck the area around Chengdu in Sichuan Province, China, causing enormous loss of life, injuries and infrastructure damage, and severely affecting the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. The State University of New York, strongly supported by Governor David Paterson, has made the extraordinary gesture of welcoming 150 university students from Sichuan Province, to study at 22 campuses of the University at no charge for the coming academic year. As expressed by Governor Paterson, our mutual goal is to "provide these students with valuable leadership training to prepare them to return to China to assist with rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of the earthquake".

China mines DR Congo's vast mineral riches - 2 Nov 08
General Laurent Nkunda, rebel leader of the National Congress for People's Defence (CNDP), has said he wants to re-examine a $5bn dollar deal the Congolese government has struck with China.
The deal gives China access to Congo's vast mineral riches in exchange for infrastructure development, including hospitals and football arenas.
However, critics say China is behaving just like the imperial powers of the past.
Al Jazeera's Nicole Johnston reports.

Timothy Geithner your next Treasury Sect.; China Stimuli
Timothy Giethner? Who? Meet our new Treasury Sect. China is stimulating its economy the right way. History is repeating itself similar to 1930's. All we need now is socialism, a dictator, hyper-inflation and some soup lines.

Tibet: The Truth (A Political History)
The West is trying to demonize China. Why? To ensure an upper-handed position economically, politically, and socially.
I HAVE MADE THIS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD:

Too many harbor strong opinions about Tibet, yet know nothing more than the few slogans offered by the mass-media outlets.
The media screams:
"They killed innocent monks!" - but those "innocent" monks and other young hooligans killed innocent Chinese before a single shot was fired on them.
"The Chinese are oppressive" - do you consider freeing over 95% of Tibetans from slavery, building a state of the art infrastructure, and a new economy oppressive?
"The Chinese suppress Tibetan Buddhism" - then why have the Chinese spent a fortune restoring ancient...

In China, the world's longest cross-sea bridge has opened. The project is part of efforts to improve economic integration and development in east China's Yangtze River Delta.
This is a new shortcut in the Yangtze River Delta. The 36-kilometer bridge spans the Hangzhou Bay, cutting the length of a trip from Shanghai to port city Ningbo by 120 kilometers, and saving at least one hour for travellers.
Local resident said, "It saves both time and money, and helps to improve our work efficiency."
The longest bridge across the sea is expected to alleviate the...

China Faces Unemployment Woes
CHAN:
The credit crunch could be blamed for the latest unemployment figures in China. They show a very grim future for workers, with a significant rise in jobseekers.
STORY:
After decades of seemingly solid economic growth China is battling falling demand for products, factory closures, protests and political unrest. Jobseeker numbers rose by 10.2 million in the first 10 months of 2008, exceeding China's official projection for the entire year by two percent.
China's minister of social security, Yin Weimin, says unemployment is expected to rise further in 2009, especially affecting small to medium enterprise businesses that have closed down or cut production.
Workers in southern and coastal China are left without pay and wait outside closed factory gates. Local authorities say they...
