Full Retaliatory Response

that the Soviet Union was building secret missile bases in Cuba, a mere 90 miles off the shores of Florida.
After weighing such options as an armed invasion of Cuba and air strikes against the missiles, Kennedy decided
on a less dangerous response. In addition to demanding that Russian Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev remove all the
missile bases and their deadly contents, Kennedy ordered a naval quarantine (blockade) of Cuba in order to
prevent Russian ships from bringing additional missiles and construction materials to the island. In response
to the American naval blockade, Premier Khrushchev authorized his Soviet field commanders in Cuba to launch
their tactical nuclear...

This program is called "America Remembers John F. Kennedy (1983) . This is part 8 of 14 parts.
This is part 8 of a 14 part program called "America Remembers John F. Kennedy" (1983). It was originally broadcast in 1983, but I taped this program in May of 1986. I did not have a vcr in 1983, so I just had the program on audio tape. This part 8 starts off at the beginning of President Kennedy's term as President (1961), and runs into the beginning of 1962.

The Cuban Missile Crisis (The Red Threat) 1962-10-22
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation during the Cold War between the United States, the Soviet Union, and Cuba. This crisis is generally regarded as the moment when the Cold War came closest to escalating into a nuclear war. Russians refer to the event as the "Caribbean Crisis," while Cubans refer to it as the "October Crisis."
The crisis began on October 14, 1962, when U.S. reconnaissance imagery revealed similar installations being installed in Cuba, as a response to the American threat. These photographs were shown to U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Some days later after a dramatic confrontation that threatened world peace, on October 28, 1962, Kennedy and Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev, with the intercession of the Secretary General of the United Nations, agreed that both...

JFK Cuban Missle Crisis Newsreel Pt 1/2
The Cuban Missile Crisis was the military confrontation among the United States of America, the Soviet Union, and Cuba when the Cold War threatened to become a nuclear war. The Russians call it the "Caribbean Crisis," while the Cubans call it the "October Crisis." Like the Berlin Blockade, it was one of the major confrontations of the Cold War. According to recently de-classified documents of NSA, Soviet Military shipments of 2,454 tons were discovered on September 23, 1960. The actual confrontation began on October 14, 1962, when U.S. reconnaissance photographs taken by an American U-2 spy plane revealed missile bases being built in Cuba, in response to similar U.S. bases built at the Turkish-Soviet border. After a bellicose confrontation on October 28, 1962, both U.S. President John F....
