Global military spending soars 45 pct in 10 years

World military spending grew 45 percent in the past decade, with the United States accounting for nearly half of all expenditures, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said Monday.

Military spending grew six percent last year alone, according to SIPRI’s annual report.

	Chinese communist party increases military spending KEAN:  The BBC reports the latest on defense spending in the mainland. The CCP says it plans to increase military spending by nearly 18% this year to nearly 60 billion U.S. dollars. Just before the announcement, the U.S. government released a report criticizing China's military spending, voicing concern over advances in space and cyberspace. In the report, Washington claimed that the real Chinese defense budget for 2007 was at least double the stated amount. Other nations have also expressed concern about China's growing military power. 	The Spirit of '43 http://spirit.aplysia.net On February 4, 2008 President George W. Bush unveiled its proposed Fiscal Year 2009 Budget: a $ 3.1 trillion budget. More than $ 500 billion will go to the Pentagon. That means a boost of military spending of more than 7%, not counting war spending (another $ 70 billion each 5 months).
