EU takes over from UN in Kosovo
A new European Union mission - EULEX will take over from the United Nations in advising on the administration of policing and justice in Kosovo. Both Albanians and Serbs there hope that the new mission will help bring war criminals to justice.

Kosovo declares independence: or dependence to U.N./E.U
Pure commentary, don't look to me for facts. I already noted one misstatement. Kosovo will not be policed by NATO and the E.U. as I stated, they will be policed by the U.N and the E.U.

UN split over EU mission role in Kosovo
The UN Security Council remains split over plans to give the European Union greater operational responsibilities in Kosovo. The proposal was made by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during a special session in New York on Friday.

Belgrade Serbia Kosovo - USA & Slovenia Embassy Attacked
Hundreds of protesters - described by police as hooligans - rallied outside the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade. Skirmishes broke out after riot police moved in to disperse them, and groups of masked thugs ran through downtown Belgrade, at one point breaking the windows at two McDonalds restaurants.
They stoned the embassy of Slovenia - which holds the European Union's rotating presidency - breaking windows and tearing down Slovenian and EU flags.

That's it. what did the world do when it came to Lebanon or Darfur or any other local conflict?
Those who do not understand and heed history's lessons are doomed to repeat the same mistakes.

Stolen Kosovo ENG pt.1
A Czech Television documentary about Kosovo. I promised I would do English subtitles but by the time I finished making it, there had already been some English versions on the Internet. Nevertheless, I decided to put it here, well, somebody might like it more. I think the quality of sound and video is OK as well as the original Czech subtitles and English ones don´t overlay one another. One Canadian friend of mine checked the grammar, so hopefully should be good - on her advice I´ve changed grammar tenses in the whole documentary - using of past tense eventhough Czech language uses present - as the exact translation was a bit confusing.

Russian pressure makes UN linger in Kosovo
The United Nations may stay in Kosovo after June, throwing into doubt a handover to European Union officials. Chief of the UN mission in Kosovo, Joachim Ruecker, said the mission will stay on the ground while the existing Security Council resolution on Kosovo is in place.

U.N. and NATO Forces Resist Rioting Serbs
KEAN:
NATO and U.N. troops come under fire in clashes with Serbs over a Kosovo courthouse.
STORY:
Serbs opposed to the independence of Kosovo fired on U.N. police and NATO troops yesterday.
The clash began at dawn when several hundred U.N. special police, backed by NATO peacekeepers, stormed a U.N. court that was overtaken. 53 Serbs were arrested but many escaped during the violence.
A NATO spokesperson says troops will not back down in the face of organized mob violence.
[James Appathurai, NATO Spokesman]:
"NATO condemns in the strongest form the violence we have seen in northern Kosovo today. KFOR will respond firmly to any acts of violence, as is its mandate from the United Nations."

Kosovo Serbs burn border points & attack Journalists
Kosovo Serbs have set fire to two border crossings to protest against Kosovo's declaration of independence.
The attacks took place at the northern Jarinje and Banja crossings, manned by United Nations and Kosovo police.
In response, Nato-led peacekeepers were deployed at the crossings. There have been no reports of any injuries so far.
This is the most serious incident since Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on Sunday, the BBC's Nick Thorpe in Kosovo says.
Belgrade has said Kosovo's declaration violates international law.

The US, Britain, France, Germany and Italy have all recognised the new state, but others have not.
Russia has warned that the move endangers international stability, while China has expressed its deep concern.

Serbia rules out embargo on Kosovo
For the first time, Serbia has ruled out economic sanctions against Kosovo in the wake of its independence. But Serbia's Foreign Minister says that the EU must not be allowed to take over authority for Kosovo from the UN. Vuk Jeremic issued the warning to the UN Security Council.
