Pentagon officials fear that Israel may attack Iran's nuclear facilities before the end of this year, a move they say that will have enormous security and economic repercussions for the United States and the rest of the world, The ABC television network quoted a Pentagon official saying chances of an Israeli attack on Iran are rapidly increasing.
The Sunday Times reported at the beginning of the week that the Iranians repositioned their Shahab-3B missiles, which have an estimated range of more than 2000 kilometers following Israel's large scale exercise last month over the Mediterranean that was described as an apparent rehearsal for a strike on Iran's nuclear sites. Oil prices leaped to record highs yesterday as Israel warned about Iranian nuclear sites and the dollar slumped on the biggest jump in American unemployment for 22 years.
The global crude price ended a run of lower prices earlier this week as it jumped by more than $9 a barrel to $136.79 (£69.44) - it has risen by over $14, or 10%, in just two days. The week before last saw an all-time high of $135.09 a barrel but, by Wednesday this week, prices had receded to as low as $122.

Yamal, Russian nuclear powered ice breaker.
The Yamal is a nuclear powered ice breaker planned and started under construction in Soviet Era Russia. She is the youngest of five Arktika class ships built from the mid 1970's. Her keel was laid in 1986 in St. Petersburg, by the time she was launched in October 1992 communism had collapsed in Russia.
Like many other Russian icebreakers, the Yamal is now chartered out on other operations, particularly for tourists to earn much need foreign currency. The original purpose of being used to keep northern navigational routes open during the winter, is now less important.
For their size, the Arktika class ships are amongst the most powerful and sophisticated ever built.
The name "Yamal" means "End of the Earth" it is also applied to the Yamal Peninsula for the same reason.

British Nuclear Test "Hurricane"
Great Britan's first nuclear weapons test, code named "Hurricane". This clip did have the "Scorpions" song "Rock my like a Hurricane", but youtube made me take it off.
Hurricane was the culmination of many years of nuclear research conducted by Great Britain, the start of which dated back to 1940 when Otto Frisch and Rudolf Peierls made the first theoretically sound critical mass calculations. The site chosen for the test was at the Monte Bello Islands off the West Coast of Australia. In September 1950, Australian Prime Minister Robert Menzies made an agreement with Great Britain to use Australia as a nuclear test site in exchange for nuclear technology.
