The Collapse of Civilization
An exploration of what COULD happen to human beings in the future if we don't change the course we are following. For some background the articles I mention in the video see: http://www.sundayherald.com/news/heraldnews/display.var.2104849.0.2008_the_year_of_global_food_crisis.php http://www.kurzweilai.net/news/frame.html http://www.newscientist.com/home.ns And these two YouTube videos make VERY interesting viewing: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GVF_pXwAbxo http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kGHrWPtCvg0 I'm also adding a site for a group you might want to check out. I've just joined myself, but I do think that we need to start exploring groups which are working to make a difference. The Collapse of Civilization and AdaptiveStrategies
Here are both some big picture ideas and small scale ideas for adaptive strategies that might work...No they won't completely solve the problem, but it's nice to know that there are people out there actually DOING something. Willima McDonough's short video about environmental cities: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eY4o3WzCfmM Richard Register's video about ecocities: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oqliNoiRgJk This Peakmoments video is a little long, and sometimes a bit tedious, but it is well worth the time, if you have 27 minutes to spare: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tRgBANnSEE4 And YES, I'm posting the link to Rob Hopkins' "Transitional Handbook" AGAIN! Sorry, but it's important: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kGHrWPtCvg0

Re: The Collapse of Civilization and AdaptiveStrategies
I'm afraid that if getting off oil is the goal, we're off to a stunningly poor start. I'm not sure whether we've even started in any kind of substantive way. What will it take? People getting much more knowledgable than they are now. People admitting that global warming is a real problem. People getting to the point where they are willing to pay for a solution, because there will be costs associated with this transition.

Learning From the Collapse of Earlier Societies
Peak Moment 112: According to Professor Guy Prouty, every civilization rises, evolves, and then collapses to a simpler structure -- and this will include our own. Comparing America with the Western Roman Empire, Prouty notes the over-reach of our military, the unsustainability of capitalism, peak oil, and climate change. And, this time, we may see a global collapse. Transitioning to a simpler society will require us to change behavior and consciousness: decrease energy, get out of debt, decentralize, de-consume, grow our own food, build community, see ourselves as connected to the planet. Collapse is not the end, he says. It's part of a natural cycle.

Ancient Apocalypse - The Maya Collapse 1 of 5
For over a thousand years, the Maya built a civilization in the jungle -- creating pyramids, sculptures and paintings. Then around 800 A.D., they practically vanished. Scientific sleuth Dick Gill has spent nearly twenty years proving his theory that a devastating drought wiped out the Maya. The program follows Gill on a journey of discovery: to an archaeological site in Belize, where there is evidence of a sudden abandonment; with geologists as they take cores from a remote lake in Mexico's Yucatan that shows evidence of an exceptional drought at the time of the Maya collapse; and visiting the slopes of the rumbling volcano of Popocatepetl, to search for evidence of an eruption that may have triggered a drought.

touhou 雪月桜花の国
Thanks for listening^^ 雪月桜花の国 composed by ZUN. Sorry, I can't translate it well =_=;; But I'm sure It image the Japanese four seasons. 雪(Snow) 月(The moon) 桜花(A cherry blossom) So I call it "The land of four seasons". The song that sang nature. It's a beautiful song.^^ It is the first time that I experience so hot summer. I'm worry about the earth being broken as it is. The world leaders tend to be going to postpone global warming. To the next generations. Do you think that it is a terrible thing? I remember that a scholar said if there is not the civilization without the end by a TV program last time. You must not let you do civilization collapse by a generation of oneself. All should think so. I guess It is difficult to find a solution about it. If here is two...

Islands of desertification
1/3 of the earth's land surface (4 billion hectares) is threatened by desertification, and over 250 million people are directly affected by desertification. 24 billion tons of fertile soil disappear annually. From 1991 to 2000 alone, droughts have been responsible for over 280,000 deaths; they accounted for 11% of the total water-related disasters. http://www.unccd.int/main.php
