Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi says the consensus reached with Japan is an important step to a win-win result for the two countries and their peoples.
Last Wednesday, the governments of China and Japan announced they'd reached a principled consensus on the East China Sea dispute.
Yang Jiechi said the sovereign rights of the Chunxiao oil and gas field in the East China Sea belong to China.
According to the consensus, Chinese enterprises welcome the participation of Japanese legal entities in the development of Chunxiao resources in accordance with relevant Chinese laws.

China says its recent agreement with Japan to jointly exploit oil resources in the East China Sea does not change its stance over its sovereignty and administration of the region.
Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Dawei says the agreement is a transitional step by the two countries, and the disputed sovereignty issue was put aside. He says China will never accept Japan's definition of the East China Sea's median line, and negotiations are the only way to resolve the territorial differences. Wu Dawei says Japan's participation in the exploration of the Chunxiao gas field, which is inside China's territorial sea, is not the same as joint exploitation of the East China Sea.

China and Japan are making progress in talks over disputes related to the East China Sea. China has been repeating its status on the disputed waters.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Jiang Yu, says China and Japan are in the process of striking deals on East China Sea issues, including the Chunxiao gas field. Breakthrough agreements are expected to be finalized soon.
China and Japan have held several rounds of talks on the issue since 2004.
However, Jiang Yu has stressed that China does not endorse either joint development of the Chunxiao gas field, or Japan's definition of the East China Sea's median line.
