Syrian President Bashar Assad arrived in Russia on Thursday for a two-day visit during which he is seeking to purchase advanced weaponry from Moscow including the Pantsyr-S1 Air Defense Missile system, the BUK-M1 surface-to-air medium-range missile system and the sophisticated S-300 long range anti-aircraft missile system already purchased by Iran. (RTTNews, July 8, 2008) - Iran has threatened to attack Israel and the U.S. navy in the Gulf as its first response to any attack on its nuclear sites, media reports quoting a senior aide to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Tuesday.
"The first U.S. shot on Iran would set the United States' vital interests in the world on fire," said Ali Shirazi, who is Khamenei's representative to the naval forces of the elite Revolutionary Guards. He said that Tel Aviv and the U.S. fleet in the Persian Gulf would be the targets that would be set on fire in Iran's crushing response.

If Israel bombs Iran's nuclear facilities and Iran in return blocks the Strait of Hormuz, the United States and it's allies will have no other choice but to obliterate Iran's "high tech military" (planes, ships, missiles, rubber boats, sling shots, etc), putting Iran in it's place, and leaving them as a diminished threat to their neighbors.

Russia's Foreign Ministry fears the deployment of a U.S. missile shield just 70 kilometres from its border will lead to an arms race in Europe and beyond.
The statement came after Washington and Warsaw signed a deal to place 10 missile interceptors in Poland, and strengthen military ties between the two countries. A corresponding radar station is to be deployed in the Czech Republic.
Moscow accuses the U.S. of attempting to disrupt balance and stability in the world. On the Wednesday, the day the agreement was signed, oil prices soared to $115 a barrel in response to increased political tensions.
