Nigeria's lucrative oil reserves may have enriched its politicians but they've brought little but misery to ordinary people. Now, a rebel group is fighting for a share of the profits. "I need help. I need help," begs a woman, clutching her young children in despair. Her home has just been demolished to create luxury housing for foreign oil workers. "The oil boom has turned into the oil doom!" laments Pastor Lekia. Across the Niger Delta, there's growing resentment at the oil industry. "Corruption pervades the whole place, starting with the way contracts are awarded," complains lawyer Ledum Mittee. Strangely (or maybe not) channel 7 and 9 ignored this news story.
So close to an election John Howard has found himself back peddling,(again). Thankfully for Australians who are paying attention to the news so far only one channel has reported the event that in no uncertain terms breaks apart any misconception as to why Australia was/is involved in Iraq. With so many lies, and countless (George Bush has made it illegal to keep an official death count) deaths of innocent Iraqi people, and the needless deaths and injuries of thousands of soldiers, all it has come down to is OIL. 2003 economist predicts $2T war, $75 oil
In this March 5, 2003 broadcast, two weeks before the invasion of Iraq, Yale economist William Nordhaus was ridiculed for predicting a war with Iraq might cost as much as $750 Billion in war costs, $2 Trillion in economic costs, create $75 a barrel oil and $3 a gallon gas.
And in all this, he still didn't count military rehab or increased domestic security costs, so even HIS estimate was low! Mission Accomplished!

Gulf War 1991 Montage - Destruction / Oil Well Fires
A montage I made showing some of the destruction and enviromental issues that followed after Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
The destruction seen is mainly caused by the heavy air and artillery bombardment from allied forces on Iraqi positions.
The enviromental issues "Oil spill/fires" were caused by the burning oil wells sat on fire by the retreating Iraqi troops in the desert of Kuwait.

McCain decided to toss in a plug for his upcoming energy policy rollout. But in the midst of decrying the dangers of Americans reliance on foreign oil, McCain seemed to suggest that this reliance caused the current struggle in Iraq. "My friends, I will have an energy policy that we will be talking about, which will eliminate our dependence on oil from the Middle East that will -- that will then prevent us -- that will prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East," McCain said.
