Bush & Blair G8 Summit Conversation.
Forget prime minister, Mr Blair, or even plain old Tony. The new way to address the prime minister, we learn, is "Yo Blair".
That at least is how George Bush greets the PM in private, according to unguarded remarks they both made in front of an open G8 microphone.
We also learn how Mr Blair refers to international commerce as "this trade thingy".
And there was some strong language used as well. The US president apparently believes the Middle East conflict could be ended if only pressure were put on Syria "to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit".

G8 Summit Concludes
ANCHOR:
The Group of Eight summit has come to an end in northern Japan. World leaders say they will address global inflation, particularly elevated oil and food prices. Here's more from Sapporo, Japan.
STORY:
At the close of the three-day G8 summit, Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo
Fukuda reiterated the group's commitment to climate change.
[Yasuo Fukuda, Japanese Prime Minister]:
"The G8 agreed to work to bring the whole world behind the long-term goal of cutting carbon emissions by at least 50 percent by the year
2050."
The countries at the summit also realize the importance of tackling inflation worldwide.
Meanwhile, the United States and other Western countries pushed the U.N. Security Council to vote this week to impose sanctions on Zimbabwe but Russia opposes sanctions. But...

As the leaders of the developed world meet in Hokkaido, Japan this week... hundreds of activists opened their own gathering. Let's take a look at the Seventh Summit of the anti-G8, in Katibougou, Mali.
STORY:
The anti-summit is taking place at a university about 60 kilometers down river from Mali's capital of Bamako. The gathering's first session and workshops took place on Monday, but were delayed by some heavy rains.
There are 13 different workshops covering various aspects of globalization and development issues.

I'm writing from Europe, where everyone is talking about Bush's disgusting behavior during his visit here. See and hear 2 very interesting things in this clip from British news -
1. Although Bush says he doesn't drink anymore, here you see him pour himself a beer (notice that he can't even do this without spilling it). To be fair, it is alleged that this was a non-alcoholic beer. The problem even with this is that non-alcoholic beers still contain an average of 0.3% alcohol - not enough to get drunk, but it has been shown that this is enough to trigger some alcoholics into an alcoholic event. The question is: what did he do with the rest of his night?

The Diaz raid-G8 summit-Genoa 2001
This revised edition video shows the opening moments of the Diaz raid at the end of the Genoa G8 in July of 2001. Over 300 police took part in the raid, expecting to find violent protesters.
What they found were 3 journalists and 90 environmentalists, social workers and pacifists. In what can only be described as a bloody massacre, 62 people were hospitalised. Some with life threatening injuries.
Everyone was falsely arrested on the basis of planted evidence once it was realized by the police that they had bludgeoned 93 innocent people.
Many of the injured were dragged from the hospital beds(to the protests by the doctors) and taken to Bolzaneto Detention Centre where they were further abused and tortured by prison police.

G8 Summit Ends in Heiligendamm, Germany
Leaders of the G8 group of industrial nations have ended three days of meetings in the German Baltic Sea resort of Heiligendamm with a compromise on global warming and renewed pledges for Africa.
Summit host, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made climate change and helping Africa major themes of this meeting and in a final news conference she said progress was made.
Mrs. Merkel said it is important that all G8 members acknowledged the dangers of unchecked global warming and have committed themselves to devising a long-term strategy to remedy the problem within the United Nations.
Mrs. Merkel characterized the G8 climate statement as a successful compromise even though she failed to win U.S. support for including mandatory limits on greenhouse gas emissions.

Japan to promote nuclear energy at G8 summit - 06 Jul 08
Leaders of some of the world's richest countries are heading to Japan for their annual meeting.
This year's G8 summit will focus on African development issues, skyrocketing fuel prices and the possibility of worldwide economic recession.
Japan think part of the solution to the rising cost of fuel, and a way to reduce green house emissions, is nuclear energy.
