Here are some more thoughts on the horrific possibilities that might come out of an American or Israeli attack on Iran. First, remember that the United States didn't like it when it was hit by a sneak attack at Pearl Harbor. Any attack on Iran will have to be conducted the same way. No one is going to tell the Iranians the bombers are on their way.
Most probably the Iranians will react the same way Americans did in December 1941. They and the rest of the World will regard the attackers as barbarous criminals for launching a sneak attack. Blood curdling vengeance will be all they can think of...and who could blame them.
Without a formal Congressional Declaration of War against Iran an attack would be a CRIMINAL ACT...A WAR CRIME. Those who ordered the attack might one day find themselves facing trial and possible execution for war crimes.
Imagine Iran refusing to hand over the thousands of captured American troops until those in charge go to Iran for trial. Perhaps George Bush, Dick Cheney and Olmert on the gallows could buy back a thousand troops each.
Also, the Iranians are NOT going to be the pushovers Bush would like them to be. They can and will hit back hard, very hard. Certainly they would instantly slam some Sunburn or Yakhonts missiles into whatever tankers are in the Gulf sinking them and the World economy at the same time. What insurance carrier would back another tanker going into the Gulf? What tanker would go into a war zone without insurance?
Even more worrisome is the almost certainty that they would aim to sink an American carrier. The Sunburn and Yakhonts missiles in their arsenal are designed for that very purpose. An aircraft carrier is good as a weapon of war only so long as it can launch its aircraft. A Sunburn slamming into the bow, stern or onto the flight deck could instantly disable this "multi Billion dollar platform". A carrier on fire is no threat to Iran, only to the sailors onboard. Now imagine Iran rescuing thousands of these sailors...you'd have the mother of all hostage situations. A carrier has a complement of around 5000 sailors onboard. The hostages, perhaps thousands, would provide Iran with insurance against further attacks for fear of killing the hostages. How many years before those captured would be allowed to return...they might be held as insurance for God knows how long. America would writhe in agony over such a situation.
Other ships would certainly be hit as well considering the flight characteristics of the Sunburn and Yakhonts missiles. They are unstoppable and cannot be defended against especially in the confines of the Persian Gulf.
Imagine hundreds of these missiles aimed at US warships. They are so fast you don't even seem them coming at nine feet above the water.
The Strait of Hormuz would certainly be mined as well. This would cut off the escape, rescue and support route for the troops in Iraq.
Think of the troops running out of ammunition and supplies...think of Iraqi revenge for Abu Graib...the possibilities are horrible especially for the troops that would be trapped in Iraq with no way out.
The World economy would come to an almost instant halt. With oil surging (this would be the surge that would be remembered) to 300, 400 or maybe 500 dollars a barrel. Think of gasoline at over $10.00 a gallon and climbing.
The World would react with rage. Real savage RAGE. Quite probably American, British, (Enlgish speaking people) and Jews all over the World would pay a terrible price. American tourists might be beaten to death in city streets from Jakarta to Brasilia. Synagogues would probably be on fire all over the World. It would be a global Kristalnacht without end. American, British and Israeli embassies would be mobbed and burned with a lot of damage and loss of life. The World economy would grind to a total halt with the loss of oil. America would probably appeal to the UN for help but there would be none forthcoming. The governments of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and Pakistan would almsot surely be overthrown. This would isolate the NATO troops in Afghanistan who would face their own slaughter at the hands of the Taliban. Russia might crush Georgia in an afternoon seeing as how NATO couldn't do anything about it.
Probably more missiles than could be counted would slam into Israel. Imagine the Dimona Nuclear plant being hit and so heavily damaged that the cooling system fails...causing a core meltdown or some such disaster.
With the loss of an aircraft carrier the US Navy's back would be effectively broken. Since no carrier commander would dare risk the loss of another to a relatively inexpensive but thoroughly dangerous weapon such as the Sunburn. Carriers would probably become obsolete overnight. Remember a Chinese sub surfaced within sight of a carrier and was undetected by the US Navy before it surfaced. Great embarassment for the US Navy. It could have potentially sunk the carrier very quickly.
After this nightmare gets rolling America would probably be shoved completely out of the Middle East and Persian Gulf region. Where would that leave Israel? It would be left to stand alone against an enraged World if it is the one that started this disaster. All of its nukes would be of little help. Investment in Israel would dry up overnight leaving it with absolutely no economy to speak of.
Most Jews would probably start fleeing Israel. With a falling Jewish population ....well you can easily see where that would lead. The Palestinians would get all the land back. This disaster would probably be the beginning of the end for the Western World making way for the rise of the East.
With all the chatter about war against Iran it does look like America and Israel have taken leave of their senses. May God forbid such stupidity. And if Iran did not have a nuclear weapons program before this catastrophe you can damn well bet they would be hell bent on starting one up as fast as they could.

Has the Israeli government and the Bush Administration taken collective leave of their senses? Our own intelligence agencies have concluded that Iran is NOT BUILDING A NUCLEAR WEAPON. By the terms of the NPT administered by the IAEA Iran has every right to enrich uranium. Israel didn't even sign the NPT nor has it ever permitted IAEA inspections of its own nuclear facilities. Iran has had inspectors all over the damn place.
What Israel and America fear is NOT a nuclear attack by Iran on anyone. The great fear is that IF Iran had nuclear weapons it would neutralize Israel's ability to threaten or blackmail the other countries in the region. Iran is going to become the dominant power whether it acquires nuclear weapons or not. IF Iran does indeed build some "nukes" they have every right to them to defend their enormous energy resources...something that the Bush Administration is salivating after. Iran is also surrounded by countries armed with nukes. Of course Israel has cause to worry, it is scared to death of being neutralized even with its own nuclear arsenal. Another major concern for the Israeli government is the undeniable fact that ultimately Iran with its oil and gas is far more important to the World economy than Israel can ever hope to be...Sorry but that is a fact. Iran is a much bigger country with vast energy resources. It is therefore more fitting that Iran would become one of the major powers in their neighborhood. The Iranian's are NOT INSANE FOOLS...they are NOT going to start a nuclear war with anyone. They do not need to. Their strategic location, enormous resources, a population of about 70 million give them all they need to become the dominant power in the Gulf. It should be remembered that Iran has not started an aggressive war in over a thousand years. The same cannot be said of Israel or the United States. Because of its inherent advantages Iran is going to become the dominant power whether the US or Israel likes it or not. So, both the US and Israel had better accept the inevitable because trying to deny Iran its destiny is going to lead to World chaos.
Of course what is mortally hurting America right now is the fact that Iran is selling its energy based on the Euro and not the Dollar.
That is the real threat to America and it did not have to be so. We should have long since made peace with the Iranians when they sought our friendship...now it is too late.
By constantly threatening Iran we have made them an enemy and they could turn out to be a very dangerous enemy. They do not have the means to attack the US but they can certainly attack our economy which they are doing by not accepting the Dollar. That is something we cannot possibly force them to do short of overthrowing their government and that is highly unlikely.
Thanks to George Bush and Dick Cheney policies America is now in one hell of a mess but the American people do not fully understand the danger they have wrought. Now Israel is doing everything to goad America into attacking Iran to make the Middle East safe for Israel.
We, Americans, will be fools if we let that happen. Israel has made the bed it is lying in so let the Israelis solve their own problems.
We cannot afford to sacrifice America for Israel's sake.
