Arabs fear fallout of nuclear conflict

Posted by Matt in July 11th, 2008

Nervous Arab states fear a war in the Gulf but a nuclear-armed Iran is an even greater concern.

Iranian retaliation against oilfields, refineries and desalination plants in the Gulf, especially in eastern Saudi Arabia, is an obvious worry. Tehran has gone on the record as threatening to close the Straits of Hormuz, the choke point for 40% of globally-traded oil, if it is attacked. Washington quickly insisted that it will not let that happen.

"Iran remains the world's leading sponsor of international terrorism and is on the Department of State's list of countries that provide support for acts of international terrorism." Nuclear Iran (2)
Iran stopped its nuclear weapons program in 2003? That was the year of Operation Iraqi Freedom. We've been told that overthrowing Saddam Hussein made the Persian Gulf a less safe place. How amazing that this invasion coincided with such a welcome change in the mullahs' attitudes.

Iran says Gulf oil route at risk if attacked
Iran says Gulf oil route at risk if attacked.. possible this could be the precursor to world war iii and possible causing oil price to go ballistic. "Regarding the main route for exiting energy, Iran will definitely act to impose control on the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz," Jafari said of the Gulf waterway through which about two-fifths of all globally traded oil passes. Jafari said U.S. forces were "more vulnerable than Israelis" because of their troops in the area. Iran's top authority, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has in the past said Iran would target U.S. interests if attacked. "Iran can in different ways harm American interests even far away," the Guards commander said. http://www.reuters.com/article/wtMostRead/idUSBLA82623620080628?sp=true

Nuclear Supercarrier is named for Racist War Criminal
John C. Stennis - Racist War Criminal - USS Stennis (CVN-74) nuclear supercarrier is named for John Cornelius Stennis (1901--1995). Who would honor a man.... who tirelessly opposed civil rights legislation time and time again, denouncing voting rights and anti-lynching legislation that, in his words, would "sweep aside many of what remnants we have of State's rights", resulting in the loss of "many of our social habits and customs in the South?" Who would honor a man.... who signed the "Southern Manifesto"—a declaration of war against school desegregation signed by over 80 southern senators and congressmen? Who would honor a man.... Whose contempt for human rights knew no borders—who vehemently demanded an even more massive bombing of the cities and countryside of Vietnam during the...

Riz Khan - Israel-Iran tensions - 09 Sep 08 - Part 1
The United States has reached an impasse in trying to stop Iran from proceeding with its nuclear programme. That programme could fuel either peaceful nuclear reactors or nuclear bombs, although Iran insists that its nuclear programme is civilian and peaceful. Washington is coming under intense Israeli pressure to do more against Iran. Israeli officials repeat the mantra, "Israel will not allow a second Holocaust" in the context of Iran acquiring the atomic bomb. Speculation has been mounting for years that Israel might try to attack Iran's nuclear programme. But experts say it is not as simple as the Israeli attack of 1981, which destroyed an Iraqi nuclear reactor, or the Israeli attack of 2007, allegedly against the beginnings of a Syrian nuclear reactor. Riz speaks with an Israeli...

"Massive US Naval Armada Heads For Iran"
http://www.infowars.com/ Europe Business Blog August 8, 2008 http://www.infowars.com/?p=3849 Operation Brimstone ended only one week ago. This was the joint US/UK/French naval war games in the Atlantic Ocean preparing for a naval blockade of Iran and the likely resulting war in the Persian Gulf area. The massive war games included a US Navy supercarrier battle group, an US Navy expeditionary carrier battle group, a Royal Navy carrier battle group, a French nuclear hunter-killer submarine plus a large number of US Navy cruisers, destroyers and frigates playing the "enemy force". The lead American ship in these war games, the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN71) and its Carrier Strike Group Two (CCSG-2) are now headed towards Iran along with the USS Ronald Reagon (CVN76) and its Carrier Strike...

''Iran continue to test missiles''
Apr 05, 2006 Iranian Gulf war games continue with testing of missiles. Iran tested the shoulder-fired Misagh anti-aircraft and land-to-sea Kowsar missiles on Tuesday (April 4) as Gulf war games codenamed "the Great Prophet" continued in the Persian Gulf. The Misagh is mass produced by the Iranian Defence Ministry who claim it has high manoeverability. Iranian state radio said the Kowsar could evade radar and that its guidance system could not be scrambled. It has the capability of being fired from both land and sea. The tests came in the middle of Gulf military exercises that started on Friday (March 31). Earlier in the war games, Iran said it had tested a radar-evading rocket and the Hoot (whale) underwater missile which could outpace any enemy warship. Iran rarely gives enough details...

Middle East Update - Iran Test Fires Missiles (rockets) BibleOrTraditions
(RTTNews, July 8, 2008) - Iran has threatened to attack Israel and the U.S. navy in the Gulf as its first response to any attack on its nuclear sites, media reports quoting a senior aide to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Tuesday. "The first U.S. shot on Iran would set the United States' vital interests in the world on fire," said Ali Shirazi, who is Khamenei's representative to the naval forces of the elite Revolutionary Guards. He said that Tel Aviv and the U.S. fleet in the Persian Gulf would be the targets that would be set on fire in Iran's crushing response. (World Tribune, June 22, 2007) Iran has expanded its naval presence in the Straits of Hormuz, the passage for an estimated 40 percent of global crude oil shipments. The U.S. Navy has determined that Iran has...
