Drugs - Mexico
February 1995
In March 1994 the heir to the Mexican presidency Luis Donaldo Colosio was assassinated in Tijuana. Only now is it becoming clear who was responsible. This in-depth report shows the extent to which Mexico's drug cartels have infiltrated Mexican politics. The corruption goes to the heart of the country's ruling political party, the PRI. We speak to Eduardo Valle (The Owl), Mexico's special prosecutor for the Federal Attorney General, now in hiding. Even the police are involved and exclusive footage shows the carnage left after police factions battled for control of profits and sectors of the drug industry. A former cartel insider turned FBI informer confirms the corruption. We profile PRI secretary-general Jose Francisco Ruiz Massieu, assassinated in September 1994 because he...

Narco Wars- Mexico
October 2008
Mexicans are facing a horrifying increase in violence brought about by the governments decision to wage war on the powerful drug cartels. Each day sees more deaths and kidnaps, while corruption is endemic.
The death toll so far this year is 4000, higher than Iraq. Around 4 people a day are kidnapped for ransom. Were assaulted every day, says one man, Mexico as a country can not guarantee our security. In Sinaloa, life is a daily roll call of decapitations, torturing and shootings of gangsters and innocents alike. A hysterical young man just witnessed the shooting of his sister point blank in the head. The next day, assassins on motorbikes executed two men in broad daylight. There are witnesses, but theyre too scared to talk. Its common belief that corrupt police are involved...

Mexicos war against drug cartels failing
The border city of Juarez is central front in Mexico's war on powerful drug cartels. Nearly five months after the government of President Felipe Calderón sent more than 2,500 federal troops and police to the state of Chihuahua on Texas' southwestern border, the pace and scope of drug violence have reached unprecedented levels. The carnage raises questions about the government's ability to restore order particularly in cities such as Juárez, an important trade and immigration conduit to Texas. The ferocity and resilience shown by the warring Sinaloa and Juarez cartel to control smuggling routes into the United States has surprised everyone. There is also a renewed concern over corruption within the government. These...

Mexican gangs move drugs, arms and people across a WIDE OPEN border. Meanwhile, Bush, Kennedy and others are defunding border security.

Mexico Seizes Drug Submarine
"Gotcha!"
*Mexico's navy seized a drug smuggling submarine off the Pacific coast of Huatulco, Mexico. The10 meter, green-topped makeshift submarine was detected heading north about 322 kilometers, off the southern state of Oaxaca, and was intercepted when it surfaced hours later and four crew members were taken into custody without resistance. The suspects were flown by helicopter to the city of Huatulco. The navy said in a statement that the submarine was apparently packed with cocaine, but authorities were still determining how much was on board. Colombia's drug cartels have been known to use home-built submarines to smuggle large amounts of cocaine past U.S. and Colombian patrol boats to Central America en route to the United States. Colombian authorities have discovered at least nine...
