Russian bombers land in Venezuela
Sep 11 - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez says that two Russian strategic bombers have arrived in the country on a training mission.
The Russian Air Force said the bombers would be based in Venezuela for several days and would carry out training flights over neutral waters.
The planes arrived days after Russia and Venezuela announced they will conduct joint naval exercises in the Caribbean later this year involving a nuclear-powered Russian battleship. Chavez - an outspoken critic of the United States - has developed close ties with Russia.

President Medvedev says the country had no option but to intervene militarily after Georgian forces killed hundreds of civilians and some Russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia. He made the statement at a meeting of the heads of Russia's regions in the Kremlin.
Medvedev told the State Council meeting that his government had acted responsibly.
"There isn't a single country in the world that would tolerate its citizens and peacekeepers being killed. Russia was obliged to save these people".
At the Moscow meeting, the government's position was backed by regional leaders.
The Republic of Tatarstan's President, Mentimir Shaimiyev, said recent events showed that ethnic conflicts cannot be solved by force.

Russia test fires intercontinental missiles
Russia test-launched a strategic missile to the equatorial part of the Pacific Ocean for the first time on Saturday.
President Dmitry Medvedev, who watched the launch from the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, has said problems caused by global financial turmoil would not hurt Russian plans to revive its armed forces, a symbol for Moscow's resurgence.
Russia's newest missile, the Sineva, was launched by the nuclear-powered submarine Tula from an underwater position in the Arctic Barents Sea, and hit an unspecified area near the equator in the Pacific Ocean, a navy spokesman said.
"For the first time in the history of the Russian Navy the target of the missile was in an equatorial part of the Pacific Ocean rather than the Kura testing ground on the Kamchatka Peninsula," he said....
